Finland has one of the lowest rates of homelessness in the world, there approach is to create affordable housing, also an homes first approach, so initially the homeless person is offered a flat within a block of flats that are designated for homeless people, within the flat they have a.multiagency team, they get help with health and mental health issues, drug and alcohol dependence, literacy support, support in returning to work, whilst living in a subsidized flat. This approach may seem expensive but it actually reduces costs to services from reduced crime, reduced anti social behaviour etc.

We do stupid things like not giving additional NHS physio to young children who've suffered injuries/illnesses due to cost, yet the cost of the child not improving and then costing the system in benefits in the future is far higher.

I agree there are numerous examples of this short sighted approach in the way this government runs this country, speech and language therapy is one the lack of therapists d limited number of sessions offered to children has a profound impact on the child's development. Adolescent mental health was badly underfunded and service's were struggling to cope before covid subsequent rates of mental health in adolescents has gone through the roof and I fear we will have a lost generation.
