Just had my Severn Trent statement, with a nearly 30% price rise, which means £240 more a year on my water bill.i expected it to go up but it still grates, running a water company is not rocket science, collet the rain, make sure you have enough sewarage plants, water resovouers, ensure the sewares are up to scratch and that your water pipes don't leak. By any criteria the water company's fail in these areas. With shareholders of all t he water cmpanies reciving a Billion pounds a year, with minimal investment in the infastructure. What is the point of a regulatory body that seems toothles and a government whodoes not seem to care about the pollution of our rivers and seas

Privatisation was a disaster. As it was for Railtrack, the rail operators, sellng off social housing, etc.....

They should all be taken back into public control. The pension funds, shareholders, etc will take a hit, but they have been milking the poor consumer for decades and they have more than made their money. It's time for some real investment in infrastructure, rather than paying out millions in overinflated management packages and dividends.
The whole reason for privatisation was apparently to give consumers a choice. I don't have a choice of who supplies my water or collects my waste. Does anyone? It's just created a dozen or so local monopolies that can charge what ever they want and spend as little as they can get away with on infrastructure and future proofing the system, as long as the dividends get paid.

Couldn’t agree more 👍 What really gets to me and I find this difficult to put into words , is this constant reference by the Water Companies to the “ system “ being outdated and the pipe work etc being old and originally installed in the Victorian age. Well, my question is , when did they suddenly realise that that was what they were working with ? So, rather than spend money over the period since they have been responsible for providing us all with clean water and disposing of sewage , on bonuses for the bosses and dividends for their share holders , didn’t they take the big decisions. The big decisions in my humble opinion , concerned fixing leaking pipe work, replacing sewage pipe work and generally upgrading the bloody system . But oh no, they decided to put up our water charges , surreptitiously discharge effluent into our rivers and maintain bonuses and dividends . To cover their mismanagement the old “ Victorian “ pipe work was a default position , an excuse to be trotted out and sucked up by us all. Not their fault you see , it’s the fault of failing pipes which has suddenly come to light . What have their engineers been doing all this time . I’ll say it again, when they come up with the old mantra , we are spending squillions on upgrading the system I ask , when did you realise it needed replacing and what have you been doing in the meantime . The whole bloody lot are a bunch of money grabbing crooks . Rant over , my opinion and if anyone disagrees tough s**t .
