inews.co.uk/news/politics/boris-johnsons-resignation-honours-blocked-house-of-lords-rishi-sunak-2404422Half of the peerages Boris Johnson submitted in his resignation honours were vetoed by the appointments committee, but Rishi Sunak had no involvement, No10 sources have insisted. With Mr Sunak facing accusations that he meddled with the list of House of Lords nominations, a Downing Street source told i that all 16 peerages originally proposed by Mr Johnson were passed on to the independent vetting body without any changes made. The House of Lords Appointments Commission (Holac) then rejected half of them before one more voluntarily withdrew from nomination. Reports suggesting Mr Sunak and his team had interjected and refused the peerages were denied by the source. “It is categorically untrue to suggest that the PM or anyone in No10 removed any names at any point in the process,” they said. Holac confirmed the claims, saying in a statement it had not supported eight peerage nominees submitted by Mr Johnson. So Sunak is trying to create the impression that he blocked Johnson's nominations, whereas in reality it was HOLAC who did so. Sunak was not then prepared to do what Johnson did with Cruddas and overrule HOLAC. www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/dec/22/pm-rejects-official-advice-in-awarding-peter-cruddas-peerageThe appointment of Johnson's mate Lebedev also attracted criticism.

Kelly Dodge, a long-serving Parliamentary hairdresser, was put forward for an OBE. She has been responsible for 'styling' Mr. Johnson's hair while in office.

Charlotte Kathryn Tranter Owen (born 1993) is a British former special adviser. In June 2023 it was announced that she will be granted a life peerage in the 2022 Prime Minister's Resignation Honours. Owen will be the youngest life peer in British history. The young attractive blonde has of course worked for Johnson. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte_Owen

If ever evidence was needed of this bloke’s ineptitude this surely has to be up there for one of the top places ! It’s just too hilarious for words!

The HofL appointments commission ruled that it would not be possible for the four Tory MPs nominated to hold on to their seats and move to parliament’s upper house at the next election. They either had to commit to standing down from the Commons and joining the Lords within six months, or face being left off the list. Jack confirmed he would not step down early, ruling him out. So by resigning with immediate effect, is this a ploy by Dorries and Adams to now get approval and be put back on the list? I sincerely hope not! www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/jun/11/boris-johnson-peerages-honours-list-row

So who will the public believe, Sunak or Boris?
This is where Boris’ previous history counts against him.

Wonderfully Nadine Dorres has launched her own investigation into why she didn't get a Peerage.

Now that is true arrogance. So many of us could tell her if we thought she’d listen.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/jun/18/honours-row-grows-after-claim-charlotte-owen-worked-as-maternity-coverConcern is growing within Whitehall over Boris Johnson’s decision to make a former political aide the UK’s youngest ever life peer, amid claims that she only entered Downing Street’s political office to cover for another official’s maternity leave. The former prime minister’s resignation honours list caused months of angst within the government as a result of some of the names that Johnson intended to either place in the House of Lords or award with another gong. It has already been confirmed that eight people that Johnson had wanted to place in the second chamber were rejected by the commission tasked with vetting new peers. However, one of the seven who were approved was Charlotte Owen, 29, who is set to be Britain’s youngest ever peer. “She was perfectly inoffensive, but she is the most junior person in political history to have received a peerage,” said one Whitehall source. “She was maternity leave cover in the political office.”

Nothing being said in media about Charlotte Owen. Twitter rumours that a Super Injunction is in place. It would not surprise me.
Only reasons you can see for her being appointed are she is Johnson's daughter or he has slept with her.
It cannot be to services to the Country or her Community. I do believe there is a place for the honours system but appointments like this really devalue it.

Take your point but perhaps you have gone a tad too far with your comment re Johnson sleeping with her . Whilst I deplore Johnson I don’t think that particular comment is necessary . Doesn’t add anything to the discussion .

How does being employed as Maternity cover qualify you for any honour? My guess would be he is her father. Johnson has proved time and again he only does things for his own benefit

There she is looking at her “ dad “ whilst her step mum looks on whilst holding the young woman’s sibling . That’s it then, a family get together. Well spotted 😂😂

www.opendemocracy.net/en/boris-johnson-tory-donors-house-of-lords-starmer-corbyn/Boris Johnson's new Lords appointees have donated £17m to the Tory Party. The Tories were followed by the Liberal Democrats, which received £2.4m from its 27 Lords appointees since 2013. Much of that was small amounts donated after each candidate's appointment, but one appointee, Rumi Verjee, has donated over £1.9m to the party. The vast majority of Labour’s £2.37m donations came from one source – William Haughey. The analysis did not include other forms of honours like knighthoods or MBEs, and did not include Johnson's recent resignation honours list.
