After the Ukrain invasion and the massive surge in energy prices and petrol prices . You. Would hope energy security and the diversification of it,s ennergy mix. Labours new policy were they will block all new oil and gas developments in the northeast makes no sense. I won't this country to move to green energy but this will take decades . So labour has just consigned the UK tomorereliance on foreign imports . It is just bonkers Insharp contrast since 2016 energy security has been top priority for Turkey they have tripled energy production from solar power , they invested in oil and gas exploration they have discovered two large gas fields and just recently made a small significant oil find , this will have a significant impact on reducing reliance on imports currently 93°% forgasand 99% for oil. .

A poorly thought out policy by Labour which demonstrates a lack of understanding of the real world. We will continue to need oil and gas for decades to come. Surely if makes sense to use what lies under the North Sea rather than import fossil fuels

Yes it is a poorly thought out policy. UK citizens will be the ones who will pay for it. We have Poland gas in the north sea and they won't explore it!! Most sane country's are looking to maximise there energy security .

By all means run headlong into "green" energy (though why nuclear has become "green" I don't know).
BUT. don't waste our natural resources like we did with coal reserves. If we have gone so green we don't need the oil, then sell it to countries still catching up and give our balance of payments a boost.

I'm al in favour of renewal energy, but the sun doesn't shine all the time, and the wind doesn't blow all the time. Reliable back up sources of electricity generation be it nuclear or fossil fuels are required. I know the above is bloody obvious.... But politicians seem to this truth as they pander to the Green lobby.
Our contribution to greenhouse gas emissions is a drop in the ocean, so why burden our industry with massive costs making UK plc uncompetitive.
Allwe are doing is moving our industry to countries with lower environmental standards, which actually makes the issue worse. And don't even get me started on electric cars
Rant over from a grumpy old man

They don’t last forever and need to be replaced . Trouble is no one considered what that would mean as they contain heavy metals which need to be disposed of safely , at a cost . Similar to the great heavy batteries from electric cars . Im all for doing whatever we can to safeguard the environment but at times I think, bugger it, chuck another log on the fire 🔥

Would be good to hear reasoned arguments from the Just Stop Oil as to how it would be possible. Time for reasoned debate instead of vested interest stances.
Maybe Nuclear isn't the answer. Being able to just stop the use of oil in the near future is not going to happen. Environmental concerns sometmes have to take a back seat to barrages, etc. EV cars are not the whole answer. Staggeredi shifts to cut down the "rush hour" More working from home. A train system that works. ( wonder why JSO people never glue themselves to railway lines?)
