In many ways the fact Anne Widdecombe gets interviewed as any kind of "expert" shows how poor tv news is now, and reliant on sound bite clips to get web hits.
Widdecome was only a low level Minister for a short time 20 years ago, and aside from a few months as an MEP in the last days of the UK being part of the European Parliament hasn't been a significant politician for a very long time, and certainly doesn't seem to have much expertise on economics
However tv news shows know paying her a few pounds to come on and say a few controversial things will make for some good clips to stick on social media and generate a lot of comment. All well and good to keep the advertisers happy but not really adding much to a real debate about food inflation which is a real issue for a lot of people
