inews.co.uk/opinion/suella-braverman-asylum-bill-moral-degeneration-2195445Let’s be utterly clear about what happened this week. This is the worst piece of legislation we’ve seen on any aspect of immigration, by any government, or any individual home secretary in our lifetime. It is nothing less than the complete betrayal of Britain’s moral obligation to protect refugees and the dismantling of its practical processes for doing so. Let’s also be utterly clear about what has been done. The asylum application process has been closed. A steel curtain has come down. There will be no protection here for the oppressed and the persecuted who arrive in boats. There will be nothing but detention, unlife and the endless bureaucratic horror of non-status. That sounds extreme and hysterical. It is simply an accurate description of the propositions put forward by the Government. Stop The Boats, emblazoned on the grim new Downing Street lectern for Rishi Sunak’s statement yesterday, is his version of Donald Trump’s Build the Wall. And we can be under no illusions about what they have decided. They think their best chance now is to run against Labour on this as a wedge issue. They will use it to distract attention from the material collapse in people’s quality of life under their administration. But that is all this is: a slogan, with a mangled policy initiative underneath it which cannot satisfy the promise that it has made.

With 50,000 or so arriving yearly where are they supposed to go and who pays for them ? We can't afford it. Sad for the real refugees but sadly that is life

For me it really depends where they're coming from.
Albania for one is an absolute no no, however I can't see how you can turn your nose up at women and children from Syria, Iraq & Afghanistan considering 'we' (Britain under Labour and in bed with the US) systematically bombed the s**t out of their countries.

We're being slowly groomed. If I'm honest we have been since COVID with all that 'new normal' bulls**t that was churned out daily by the mainstream media for two years, and it's still f**king happening!
The government, energy suppliers, banks, massive corporations, food manufacturers, supermarkets and, worst of all, us, are all pushing the same bulls**t narrative. We can't help it of course, it's the British way to find humour in abject misery, but for the love of god quit it with that 'cossy livs' bulls**t. It's not a giggle. It's a f**king travesty.
Day in day out we're told it's an inevitability by a***holes making huge profits, that this is our lot. Your energy is going up another 500 quid this year despite wholesale costs going down by 75% but you're supposed to be thrilled that the government is 'looking after you' by throwing the odd handful of crumbs from the f**king table.
No other economically similar country is going through what we are in this perfect storm of post pandemic, post Brexit f**kery that's being carefully stage managed by filthy disaster capitalist cockroaches sucking every last drop of life blood from it's hardened, plaque ridden arteries, but don’t think about that right now because I'm sure our largest chip manufacturer has a quaint little poem about us all pulling together, and how they're doing their bit by only increasing the cost of a bag by only one pound instead of two. And if that that doesn't make you feel better what about a daytime tv millionaire telling you about the benefits of a f**king draft excluder to take your mind off worrying about how you're going to feed your family of four tonight on almost off, yellow sticker sh**e. Don't panic! Asda to the rescue with their super low-price range that's almost back to crazy 2022 savings! *3 items per customer. And the banks! The good old friendly banks that are here to listen (with a fella in India obviously because they closed your local branch). Yes, they're always here to listen! To you moan on about your mortgage doubling. Bless, it's like an offer of free counselling from your f**king rapist.
Never mind though eh, at least your employer has your back. You're not getting a raise this year despite them literally gloating to you about their record-breaking profits but turn that frown upside down because it's pizza Friday! Maybe you can smuggle a couple of slices out for the kid's tea. Pro Tip: Go for the hot and spicy so you can turn the f**king gas off for an hour and save another £13.89 What is the point in putting in those 40 hours a week just to tread water? Take a good look around you. Look at our crumbling NHS, our threadbare public services, our unaccountable police force, the mass strike action and the BILLIONS squandered by a deceitful, corrupt government. Look at the f**king food prices! They climb up week upon week and that's not f**king right. There is no egg shortage, they just won't pay the now unsubsidised farmers a fair price for them. Wasn't that one of the main objectives of leaving the EU in the first place, self-sufficiency for domestic business? It's greed through and though from the bottom to the top and the more we allow it the more they'll push it. It's only going to get worse and no amount of deportation or incarnation of asylum seekers is going to f**king change that.

We haven't received our pay award this year yet, but seeing as we had around 10% last year I would imagine that it's going to be at least half decent.
Yes it's angry (FYI it's from Tuckered 2.0 on FB well worth a follow), but it is scarily honest in its appraisal of the current situation. Unless you'd care to disagree with anything on there and would like to discuss the points you disagree with.

Let’s also be utterly clear about what has been done. The asylum application process has been closed. A steel curtain has come down. There will be no protection here for the oppressed and the persecuted who arrive in boats. There will be nothing but detention, unlife and the endless bureaucratic horror of non-status. I think the idea is to introduce measures (if they even see the light of day) that act as a deterrent. So this is in line with that. Regarding safe routes; what happens to those who are refused refugee status when trying to use these safe routes? What about those who are economic migrants and know they will not receive refugee status? Will they stop trying to get to the UK? There is the question of how many refugees any country can accept and how to make that process easier and quicker, there is the question on how to stop people from making dangerous crossings by boat, there is the question on how you can put the people smugglers out of business. As far as I can see I see a fair amount of discussion around the first of these three questions but not the last two. As I believe that even with safe routes it will not stop people from crossing on boats (and will do so by employing people smugglers). So how do you stop them unless you have something specific in place for those who enter on boats? Plus the author of that article doesn't help himself when explaining how difficult it is to return people who are refused asylum. That is no doubt the reason many would like to see tougher action, to stop those who they deem ought not to be in the UK from getting there knowing they will not be removed.

the country needs to find a balance and how they do it i dont know but we do need to be able to give a refuge to people fleeing genuine persecution the problem is the system is a mess and it gets exploited by human rights lawyers and people who should be screened out and deported at a much erlier stage. i had a look at what is happening in the EU over the last few years the EU has gradualy taken a tougher stand by outsourcing the problem by funding lybia who have an apaling human rights record.the EU also funds programes in Turkey within the EU Denmark has been taking a very tough stance on economim migrants which has resulted in a significant drop in applicants, www.hrw.org/news/2023/02/08/already-complicit-libya-migrant-abuse-eu-doubles-down-support"This week, the European Union handed over in Italy a search and rescue vessel to Libyan authorities intended for abusive Libyan Coast Guard forces and promised four more, without any apparent attempt to vet the human rights practices of the coast guard, thus making the EU more complicit in human rights abuses in the Mediterranean." "For years the EU has abdicated its primary responsibility of search and rescue in the Mediterranean, where thousands of migrants and asylum seekers have died while attempting to reach Europe from North Africa, particularly Libya. Instead, the EU and member countries have chosen to furnish money, vessels, training, and aerial surveillance to abusive Libyan armed groups so they can intercept and forcibly return people to Libya. There, these migrants face systematic and widespread abuses including torture, arbitrary detention, forced labor, and sexual assault." rli.blogs.sas.ac.uk/2021/09/29/denmark-leading-the-race-to-the-bottom-hostility-as-a-form-of-migration-control/"The adoption of hostility as a form of migration control by the Danish government appears to be very much in line with the overall paradigm shift that has been taking place in the EU. However, it can be argued that the Danish case distinguishes itself from other policymaking processes due to the exacerbated and rapid politicization of the “migration issue”, which took place in a relatively short period of time. The centre-left Social Democratic Party (SD) came out of the June 2019 elections victorious. This win was greatly attributed to the adoption of hard-line immigration policies by the SD, swaying a base who traditionally had been known to vote right-wing. As this policy turn bore its fruits, a new target gained primacy for policy making decisions. While the number of asylum applications steadily decreased, Danish policy makers started giving increasing primacy to gaining and keeping votes from right-wing base voters." www.infomigrants.net/en/post/42828/austria-tells-potential-migrants-you-will-failwww.euractiv.com/section/politics/news/austria-calls-for-stronger-border-protection-hard-line-on-migration/
