Said it for a while, if you want an Indian, charity shop or a Turkish barber you're laughing in Shrewsbury.

Everytime I drive past one they are always empty It's one of the most unregulated industries in the country, you can just crack on with it, no qualifications, no checks. They're everywhere in town now, I'd suspect some are involved in money washing from more illicit money making activities. I went to one a couple of times, never again. Glad I've got myself a proper barber who has won awards, can actually communicate and can understand and implement what I'm asking for.

Cash taking business, no regulation like food hygiene standards poking their nose in - Marty from Ozark on Netflix would love them.

( since about 1990 ) I'm not sure to be perfectly honest. Off the top of my head there's: Third Place Curry House Avatar Cafe Saffron Ramna Masala Tandoori Cottage (out of town) Flavours (out of town) I'm sure there's more sit downs I'm missing.

Will never turn my nose up at a new Indian restaurant and having moved about in the UK quite a bit. including living in the so-called 'curry capital' of England - as well as travelling India itself - I'd have to say Shrewsbury probably has the best selection of Indians of anywhere I've been.
But it probably doesn't need any more.

Everytime I drive past one they are always empty of course they are empty, most dont even contain a set of scissors at a guess , but I bet when the tax forms are filed it would seem the places are heaving every day, and everyone paid cash ( loads of it ) ( look up Al Capone and Laundrettes )

The cash needs washing and changing to "legitimate" money somehow.

Said it for a while, if you want an Indian, charity shop or a Turkish barber you're laughing in Shrewsbury. Not just Shrewsbury. I was reading some threads on social media recently about how loads of towns across the UK are now full of Turkish barbers & nail bars. If you believe them then its a front for money laundering and other dodgy activities. I'm currently in the Cotswolds and there plenty of them about, funnily enough I had a meal the other night at an old country pub in a small village which is now a Indian restaurant and it was lovely, so if this does become an Indian bar & restaurant then it's not the end of the world.

I find it hard to believe there's much of a gap in the market for another bog standard sit down Indian but the fact they're looking at a pub makes me wonder if somebody's looking at a Desi pub type thing.
These are all over Birmingham and the Black Country (not complicated; imagine decent pub, sports in TV, nice beer etc meets decent Indian restaurant) and I've been saying for a while one would do well in Shrewsbury

They claimed they didn’t take card, then when I came back from the out-of-order cash machine at the garage empty handed, low and behold a card reader magically appeared.

I was told that this is Avatar, moving from Mardol to the Bucks Head, not an additional Indian restaurant

I have had my hair cut in a Turkish barbers, but it was in Turkey.

I was hoping this might be one of those, it would be disappointing if this just became another restaurant

That one was good, watched the scores and had a Tandoori mixed grill and then went to Wolves v Newcastle evening game, was class.

Made ever more strange by the fact I was working in London and he recognised me in a cafe two days later, very odd.
