We see the same reported here in Germany... Germany debates raising retirement age to 70...and aren't there strikes currently ongoing in France due to an increasing to the retirement age (or proposals to do so anyhow)? I've already given up on this to be honest, I do think it'll be at 70 if and when I get around to it anyhow.

I have a pretty selfish view on this but seeing as im in my 20's I'm working on the assumption there won't even be a state pension by the time I come to retire.
The fact of life is people are living longer, so it only makes sense to increase the age at which people can claim it.

Maybe some day they will find a way to ease people into retirement? Still doing something they enjoy and can do but without the pressure of a full time job. Useful for the country, fulfilling for the person, but not pushing someone into NHS health care issues by flogging a half dead horse.

I'm a lot older than that and I think that even if there will be a state pension when I come to retire, I doubt it'll go very far and so I'll need to continue working just to earn enough to get by anyhow. Looking to your comment and your age though there is also another aspect of this; I think a lot of us older folk are concerned that in having to work for longer we're taking up space in the workforce, space that we would rather see taken up by those of a younger age. Whether it works like that I have no idea. I mean whether an ever increasing older workforce does make it harder for younger people to get into employment, I'm not sure. But if so, then that's not a good situation for all involved either.

I am retired but if i was 20 i would like to think i would be investing in a private pension but considering the cost of living hike this year i doubt if i would have any money spare to do it and iv always been a saver..
