Here we go again , yet more money thrown away. A company owned by a Tory supporter who has contributed £730k to them since 2017 was paid £11m to deliver useless PPE . The same company is now being paid £4.5m of taxpayers cash to destroy it. For some Covid has turned out to be a cash cow showering Tory supporting concerns with eye watering amounts . To my mind it just beggars belief . Unfortunately there’s bugger all anyone can do to stop it . Perhaps we can get our MP to ask some awkward questions in the House ! After all he managed to secure a considerable sum for our NHS Trust so perhaps he can persuade his government to take steps to reclaim PPE monies from unreliable providers . Perhaps he could also ask why it cost £4.5m to destroy items not up to standard .

I see many similarities. ratical.org/ratville/CAH/warisaracket.html

www.theguardian.com/society/2023/jan/26/department-of-health-wasted-15bn-on-unused-covid-supplies-watchdog-findsThe Department of Health has wasted a total of £15bn on unused personal protective equipment, Covid tests and vaccines, prompting heavy criticism from the Whitehall spending watchdog. The department spent £8.9bn during 2020/21 and another £6bn last year on such supplies, including masks and gowns for NHS staff that have proved unuseable and are now being burned. The sums were revealed in the Department for Health and Social Care’s (DHSC) annual accounts and report for 2021/22, published on Thursday, and highlighted in a highly critical assessment issued by the National Audit Office (NAO).

It’s bloody unbelievable isn’t it. £15bn wasted . Just think how that vast sum could be used , perhaps distributed between local authorities to help them fund social care in their areas.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/feb/12/firm-won-ppe-contract-greg-hands-approached-by-tory-activist-luxe-lifestyleA lifestyle company won a £25.8m government contract for PPE through the so-called VIP lane after the new Conservative chair, Greg Hands, was approached by a local Tory activist, new documents suggest. Luxe Lifestyle, a company trading in “specialised design activities”, had no published accounts at the time the contract was awarded, and did not appear to have a history of supplying PPE. It is understood Hands, then a trade minister, made a referral to officials in early April 2020 after a Conservative activist, Mark Higton, approached him about a contact offering PPE and other items. Leaked documents, obtained by the Good Law Project, later listed a PPE contract as “Minister Hands/Luxe Lifestyle” and the point of contact as “Mark Higton”, a former chair of a neighbouring constituency association. A subsequent freedom of information request revealed that 9m items worth £20m provided by Luxe Lifestyle were labelled “do not supply” by the government, meaning they were not used.

Just as a matter of interest what is the sum we have wasted on securing PPE , that is payment made for masks / gloves/ aprons which have been described as not fit for purpose. Is the government actively pursuing those companies who supplied useless PPE to clawback monies . Finally what’s the situation with Michelle Mone , she seems to have gone into hiding .

Lord Bethell, a former health minister, has already admitted inadvertently deleting WhatsApp messages relating to how personal protection equipment contracts were awarded. He told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme last week: “I had an issue with capacity on my phone … and I clumsily deleted them. In retrospect, I regret doing that.”
Yeah, sure.

Isn’t it possible to still retrieve them . I always understood that such messages can certainly disappear but can never be destroyed completely. Perhaps if he is so regretful he wouldn’t mind handing his phone over so that some tech geek can do the necessary 😉😂

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10175591/Tory-peer-Lord-Bethell-changes-story-90m-Covid-contracts.htmlA former health minister has admitted he deleted text and WhatsApp messages about Covid testing contracts from his phone because he wrongly believed there would be back-up copies. Lord Bethell also said three apparently contradictory explanations he gave to government lawyers as to why the messages could not be produced were all mistaken because they related to a phone he stopped using before the pandemic began. My dog ate my homework excuses methinks!

There really is nothing to see here.

There really is nothing to see here. You keep on thinking that whilst the rest of us consider the consequences of what the NAO describe in their highly critical assessment as basically loads of money wasted. Nothing to see here then must refer to the countless items considered totally useless but costing this country millions , provided by those awarded contracts who really hadn’t a clue what they were doing . Millions wasted cannot just be ignored . More importantly what mechanism is in place to claw back this money . No wonder that Mone woman is keeping her head down ; I’m sure there’s a fair few in government who are hoping she continues to do so whilst this disgraceful state of affairs slowly drifts away , in other words just like you who is of the opinion that there is nothing to see here . Really !

Bloody hell. That’s absolutely incredible; 570m aprons and 450m face masks? No, that cannot be right surely . Imagine all the s**te from the burning materials going into the atmosphere , no wonder we have global warming .In reality I suppose they were disposed of in a proper manner by a contractor ,known to someone in the government of course , who could do a good job for a few quid , no questions asked . Just totally mind blowing .
