Fracking is a contreversal topic but from a energy point of view we stoped fracking in the uk which would ensure energy security but now sign a deal with the US to buy Gas produced by fracking, bearing in mind thre are over 50 US ships at anchore off Europe with Liquified Natrual Gas (LNG ) waiting for the EU to use up thre gas reservers so htey can sell it to them at a higher price.this deal just ensures the UK is going to be reliant on the US for our gas www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11510103/Rishi-Sunak-Joe-Biden-unveil-gas-supply-agreement-TODAY.html"Much of the energy imported from the US will be produced by fracking. However, just weeks ago Mr Sunak reinstated the ban on shale gas extraction in the UK after Liz Truss tried to lift it. Charles McAllister, director of UK Onshore Oil and Gas, said: ‘It is the height of hypocrisy for the Government to disallow shale gas development in the UK whilst chasing deals with the US to buy their shale gas. ‘Gas imports do not offer the economic, environmental or geopolitical merits a domestic industry would offer. ‘The Government’s strategy is clearly to offshore our environmental responsibilities and economic opportunities at the expense of UK households, businesses and taxpayers.’"

As an Island nation we could quite comfortably be reliant on just ourselves if we embraced all technologies.

No one has a clue how much shale gas is retrievable from the UK as only two exploratory digs have ever been undertaken and they both caused tremors in the local area surrounding them.
Even the most optimistic experts suggest we'd be able to extract enough gas to run the UK for around 5 years. It is not worth the time or expense.
The focus should be on nuclear as a base load, with tidal and offshore wind farms.

Shale gas here is a non starter, no company will invest in something that has unknown upside and unknown downside.
