Boris Johnson has confirmed that he will attend the Cop27 climate change summit in Egypt which begins on Sunday.
The move will add to pressure on Rishi Sunak to attend the global meeting, after the prime minister initially said he would not go.
Since then, Mr Sunak has left open the possibility he might attend, with a No 10 spokesman saying he would be dependent on progress with the autumn fiscal statement.
Mr Johnson told Sky News that he had been invited by Egypt, following the UK's role as host of last year's talks, and was "very happy to go".
He said: "I happen to have a particular interest."

Surely that should read that he has a particular SELF interest. He does nothing that isn’t good for him.

I think if you look back to previous meetings its not unusual for the PM not to attend. As long as the UK is represented, as I gather it will be, then its all good.

Sunak will now be attending. The fact that Boris will be there probably rattled him.
Incidentally, Johnson won't be going on government business, so who is paying for his flight, hotel and expenses? Surely Carrie will want to be there too? Lord Bamford dipping into his pockets again?

Glad he’s decided to go, surely more important to save the world over setting a budget (we’ve had 3 in the last 12 months non affective)
As Rishi said.
"no long-term prosperity without action on climate change"
The right decision.

Rishi Sunak’s spokesperson said that because we’re in a “challenging time for the country”, MPs should be working hard in their constituencies and in Parliament… That must be news to Boris Johnson, who just spent weeks on holiday at luxury resorts in Slovenia, Greece, and the Dominican Republic before briefly returning to attempt a comeback, and then planning to attend COP27.

Not to mention Mr Hancock.
How can we respect what the PM says when his own MPs apparently don’t?
