Thoughts on this? Great signing for the show in my opinion but undoubtably the backlash about an active MP earning hundreds of thousands for a few weeks work whilst he should be doing his day job.

It's been a great start for Rishi so far. Publicly chastised by just about everybody for binning off COP. Braverman mired in scandal and will probably have to walk again fairly soon. Matt Hancock buggering off to earn several hundred k whilst being paid by taxpayers to represent their interests in parliament.
Will the suspension be long enough to trigger a by-election petition? Let's hope so.
Rumours of LONC already being sent in for Sunak. I reckon we're at about evens for another leadership contest by Christmas.

Don’t know if this counts as sleaze exactly but it does sum up this bunch of MPs we’ve got if going on this programme is the best he can do while taxes are set to rise, bills increase and Putin is still around.
I wouldn’t be impressed if he was my MP whatever party he was in.
All the above plus whatever problems his constituents may want him deal with on their behalf.
I posted this under sleaze but have copied it here as it’s more relevant.
To be honest I just give up with it all at the moment.

Disgraceful behaviour.
Self before country.
I hope his constituents give him his much-deserved marching orders.

Hopefully he will get lumbered with challenge after challenge and not be voted out until the last couple of days. Make him suffer I say.

Off on his holidays whilst Parliament is in session and making £130k for a half hour speech in America. Now rumoured to be planning to attend the COP27 Climate Change Conference. His constituents in Uxbridge must be thinking they are being represented by the Invisible Man.

He's also upset his Constituency Party. They don't have to put him up as their candidate for the GE if they choose not to do so.
"Hancock was criticised by the deputy chair of the West Suffolk Conservative Association, Andy Drummond, who said: “I’m looking forward to him eating a kangaroo’s penis. You can quote me on that.”"

Matt Hancock has failed to follow rules requiring former ministers to seek permission on post-government roles with his forthcoming appearance on I’m A Celebrity, the Guardian has learned.
Until June 2023, Hancock must seek permission from the advisory committee on business appointments before taking up outside employment or appointments, but has failed to make an application for his role on the reality show.

Hancock is automatically guaranteed to take part in every single bushtucker trial going. Doesn’t matter what it is – maybe he’ll get covered in maggots, or be forced to eat a kangaroo’s bumhole, or get kicked into a rocky ravine – this is a chance for the British public to finally get its revenge on a figure who came to personify every government mishap during Covid. Trawl through the recent footage of Hancock and you can pretty much freeze-frame the exact moment he decided to take part on I’m a Celebrity. Rishi Sunak was glad-handing colleagues in Downing Street, thrilled that he had finally been chosen to lead the country. Hancock was in the crowd, too, smiling and expectant as Sunak drew ever closer. But Sunak snubbed Hancock, failing to shake his hand or even look him in the eye. Hancock’s dejection was evident for all to see. His face fell. His shoulders dropped. The anguish danced through his entire body. Rewatch that video and pause it just after the snub. Look in Hancock’s eyes. That is the look of a man with nothing left to lose. Sure, he’ll lower himself and appear on ITV. Sure, he’ll let the public bully him. Sure, he’ll probably find his pubic area riddled with ticks and leeches. But so what? He can’t feel any more. Everyone in the country is fully aware of him, of his damp-mouthed, sadsack persona, and of all the things he has done. People died on his watch, and now they finally have a chance to get their own back. Will forcing him to crawl through a tunnel filled with rats, crying and gagging and begging for leniency, bring their loved ones back? No, but it’s the next best thing. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/nov/01/the-man-is-guaranteed-to-be-punished-matt-hancock-on-im-a-celebrity-will-be-legendary-tv

I was going to start this thread on the main board (without the Matt Hancock title).
Now you’ve made it political I can’t. My view it’s a joke but will watch and vote for the first time ever👍

Appearing on this show, didn't stop Nadine Dorries being promoted beyond her capabilities. Hancock is doing the same in reverse.

I see Me Hancock has justified himself in the rag known as The Sun.
He apparently says he wants to be out meeting the people and not in the ivory towers of Westminster. Thank goodness he didn’t think that when he was earning a minister’s salary!
Also I’m not sure how many ‘ordinary’ people and/or constituents he is expecting to meet on this jaunt, but I suspect it won’t be very many! They’ve all got more sense.

“Rather than looking down on reality TV, we should see it for what it is — a powerful tool to get our message heard by younger generations. In fact, I think it’s patronising to hear some say reality TV is beneath a politician. It’s as clear as day that politicians like me must go to where the people are, particularly those who are politically disengaged. We must wake up and embrace popular culture.”That's nonsense isn't it, he's just looking to life beyond politics. And I'd say its more patronising to hear a politician saying he needs to get on reality TV to engage with "people" and the "younger generations"...

The Chief Whip has made the position clear, which is that he has made a decision that going on I’m a Celebrity is not compatible with doing your job properly as a member of parliament, which is why the whip has been taken away.
So why hasn't the Chief Whip also removed the whip from Johnson, who has been taking holidays while Parliament is in session and is now going to be away attending COP27 in a personal capacity and not on government business?
One rule for Boris and another for everyone else then?
