First Qualifying round of the FA Cup starts this weekend. Literally hundreds of teams playing all across the country, mostly Saturday but a few on Sunday and a few tonight.
Only local teams I can see are Whitchurch Alport who play Vauxhall Motors tomorrow, while tonight sees a tasty local clash between Market Drayton v Shifnal Town.
Anyone going to either of these?

Going to the Greenfields tonight for the first time to watch the Market Drayton v Shifnal game.
Inspired by a friend of mine who chronologically followed the winner of each game from the first extra preliminary to the Wembley semi-finals last season.
The only problem is the potential clashes with STFC games letter on in the competition but I'm grateful they were able to move this one.

There was a book written by someone who did a similar journey back in the 70s back when the competition wasnt devalued at its latter stages as it is now. Think it started with a small West Midlands club, and covered 2 or 3 Telford games on its journey. Was a good read, though there was some obvious local interest along the way.

I'd love to achieve something like that but I think the further you get into the competition the less interesting it gets. Having a look at my friend's itinerary last season he started off in Wantage and ended up at the City Ground for the Arsenal game via places like Shaftesbury, Bath and Banbury. It's his third round trip to Barnsley to watch them play Barrow which would have been a struggle to get motivated for I'm sure!

I struggle to get motivated for any game after we get knocked out I'm afraid these days. There is sometimes something of interest beyond our exit like last season with Boreham Wood going on a run but it's not every season something like that happens. These days after weve gone it's very much the usual old teams that are on TV every week, which I find so boring. That's why I like the early rounds like this with a bit of local interest, there will be at least one local team in the next round. Then it will soon be time for our local rivals over the border to come into it too.

I’m another who loses interest once we and other lower league clubs have gone. It’s just like Match of Day for me - boring.

Well done to Mkt Drayton winning 2-1. Att-298. what a great brag it would be to say you have played in the fa cup, I've played against both of those sides but never came remotely close to the fa cup, I remember big Dunc ( telford shrew ) telling me he played in the fa cup for shifal against rushall olympic

Who are Wrexham playing Far too big a club to be playing in this early round. Probably join in in a couple of rounds (weeks) time though. For us we have to wait till early/mid November.

That's handy for them, means they stay in the competition for the first couple of rounds Would think with their wonderful squad and fantastic fan base (to say nothing about their mighty floodlights) they will be looking to get to at least the 6th round beating loads of the FL teams. Actually I'd love to see them have a long FA Cup run, and an FA Trophy run I really would. Take their focus away from winning the Non League once again 😃

Market Drayton v Shifnal was a real advert for non-league football on Friday night. I've seen a few local games before but never in Shropshire.
Never seen more of a 'game of two halves' either - Shifnal absolutely dominating the first half. Never seen a non-league side play 'ole's' before after about 15-20 consecutive passes. Pitch was an absolute dream compared to some of these awful 3G pitches you get nowadays.
Game turned on it's head second half and couldn't help but get caught up in it all when Drayton scored a late header.
Shifnal also had a penalty to make it 0-2 to put the game to bed but missed.
The magic of the FA Cup and all that!
Coventry United or Highgate in the next round.

We were about level 15, we were drawn to play a local town (level 8). A disaster was predicted and duly happened. Losing just 2-1 at half time and listening to their manager giving them the hair drier treatment was the only positive we took from it. Final score; 8-1. We never entered it again.

Two clubs trying to rise from the FL ashes. Macclesfield through, Mark Duffy in their line up, along with a few more experienced heads in Nicky Maynard and Neil Danns. Bury face a replay.
