Linfield take a 1-0 lead over to Bodo Glimt from tonight, will have to put up a good performance to hold onto the win. Meanwhile Shamrock Rovers lost the first leg 3-0 to Ludogorets so would think they will be out after next week. Well Linfields slender lead lasted all of a few minutes, then had a bloke sent off after 20. Finally lost 8-0 on the night to go out 8-1 on aggregate.

But will have a second chance, this time in the Europa League.

The owner/chairman has been on Fantasy Island I think. He is now going to invest heavily to make sure they become regulars in the Group stages of the Champions League and plans to build a 10000 seater stadium They will then compete with neighbours Wrexham for the “Pie in the Sky” trophy.

Few British Isles teams in action tonight.
In the Europa qualifying games Linfield take on FC Zurich, and Shamrock Rovers are at home to Macedonian side Shkupi.
In the Conference qualifiers Dundee Utd are home to AZ Alkmaar, and in the early kick off games it's currently CSKA 0 St Patricks Athletic 0 but in Norway Viking FK have virtually won the tie being 4-0 up against Sligo after an hour.

Not a good night for British and Irish clubs tonight in Europe.
Linfield lost 0-3 in Zurich to go out 0-5
St Patrick's lost 0-2 against CSKA Sofia (1-2 on aggregate)
Sligo actually won 1-0 at home to Viking FK but went out 5-2
But the biggest tonking was for Dundee United who's 1-0 first leg lead got massively overturned in Alkmaar to the tune of 0-7 (1-7 agg).

In the Europa League qualifying games tonight Shamrock Rovers are surely heading out after losing 4-0 away in Hungary to Ferencvaros, while Hearts were edged out 2-1 in Zurich but all to play for next week in the second leg.
In the Conference League qualifiers West Ham take a 3-1 lead to Denmark when they play the return against Viborg. Meanwhile Linfield looked on their way to becoming the first N Ireland team to qualify for the group stages of a Euro competition leading 2-0 before 2 very late goals pegged them back to 2-2. All to play for in Belfast next week.

Hearts go out, lost 1-0 3-1 on agg Shamrock won 1-0 but go out 4-1 on agg West Ham won 3-0 to win 6-1 on agg But surely the cruelest of luck to Linfield. Game went to ET and they went ahead with just 6 mins left but an OG in the very last minute the tie to pens. And the obvious script in this situation is to lose the pen shoot out by 4-2. Football can be heartbreaking at times.

Watched extra time of the Linfield game as I realised their game was broadcast on the BBC Sport app, it’s fair to say they suffered a sequence of unfortunate events towards the end, the one time they broke out of shape to burst forward for a counter attack went on to be the one time they got caught out, I’m sure SC would use that as an example for anyone who may question his tactics against the bigger clubs 😉
