HMV are a disgrace. Blatent rip off.
I'm not condoning copying music, however there is a reason millions of people now do it, and that may have something to do with being ripped off by the record companies and retailers over many years.
Surely copying off the internet is no worse than making a copy for someone else or lending them your cd so that they can make a copy?

Take for example Greatest Hits - The police vinyl scratched and nearly unplayable under £5 when bought many years ago. On cd from hmv £16+ daylight robbery soooo, load up Shareaza and hey presto a perfectly good mp3/cd for £0

newsgroups.....free from your ISP.....mostly high bitrate lame encoded mp3's...and certain albums are usually available for "listening" to at least a month before officially released.

I still buy as many albums as i used to, but now have a massive collection on my computer too. It is noticeable that the poor pop stars are still managing to scrape by despite the massive increase in piracy. If I see Bono in the gutter I'll chuck him a tenner.
I use BitTorrent and download whole albums by the way.

whats the point in paying for Music when you can get it for free these days if your paying for them that money just goes straight into the big fat cigar smoking record company executives pocket (not that im stereotyping ) i get most of my music off Kazaalite, occasionally still do buy albums tho

Soulseek or bittorrent are the best if you want whole albums. Kazzalite only one song at a time (I thinK). As for the law, sod it- there is good evidence that downloading music increases interest in different types of music leading to increased sales of CDs and tickets for gigs.
What the record companys are really worried about is loosing their monopolies on the distribution of music. With the kind of crap they try and force down the consumers throats they deserve nothing but contempt. They are aware that the internet is a place where people might actually discover some GOOD music and stop supporting their big name crappy artists. If its free people will of course experiment more.
Greedy bastads - sod 'em download as much as you can and if you like it then try and find a way of supporting the artist like going to a gig or if its not on a major label buying the CD.
