Standby for the ‘hard luck’ stories:
‘We’ve been in for them for a while and were outbid at the last minute’.
‘Players don’t want to commit to us’.
‘Players want too much money’.
‘We just couldn’t get it over the line’.
‘It wasn’t the right quality’.
‘We’re happy with the squad we’ve got’.
‘We’re not going to bring in players just to make up numbers’.
‘We want quality over quantity’.
‘We’re still looking’.
Feel free to add more…?!

They'll be the standard talking down of the club, "we're a small club", others clubs are spending a fortune, we've got to protect the future of the club, blah blah blah.

If Udoh does have a long term injury and O'brien is out for an indefinite period you're telling me we're gonna go until January (and probably beyond) with a strikeforce of Pyke, Bowman and Saydee? I think if you were intentionally trying to get relegated that would be a good strategy. Pyke, Bowman, Bloxham, Caton, Saydee and Street! Forwards to srike fear into Division 1 defences. Saydee - 2 goals in 28 appearances - both for Poole Town. Street - 2 goals in 23 appearances. Bloxham - 2 goals in 24 appearances. Caton - 0 goals in 5 appearances. Pyke - 6 goals in 103 appearances - 0 in League games for us in 28 appearances.

Well, it'll be the usual shrewsbury town way----- 'buy cheap pay twice' kinda thing.get in 2 or 3 nobodies, and then try to address the situation in january, cos them players were no good(or injured) anyway we'll see what happens, but I'm not holding my breath tbh

"Crystal Palace are in talks with Peterborough over a deal for highly-rated England U19 centre-back Ronnie Edwards, according to The Telegraph. The move could be worth £9m with add-ons."
You can guarantee if he was a town player that the first sight of seven figures and he'd be gone.
Kudos to P'Boro, they're always demanding the very the highest fees for their talent and then reinvesting portions of it in more young prospects.

Time to stop making the usual pathetic excuses like we're poverty stricken etc and think outside the box .Give Wilbs the no 9 shirt and convert HB to play alongside him.
For backup there's still time to get down to Dover to sign up a couple of those big tough Albanian lads with the prison tattoos coming off the boats. Now that really would strike fear into the hearts of opposing defenders 😂

After the way we treated Bondswell I doubt we'd stand a change, but Matty Longstaff with Premier League experience under his belt is tipped for a season long loan to League One.
Shame that we've probably burnt our bridges with what could potentially be one of the best academies in the country in a few years time.

After the way we treated Bondswell and Leshabela, quite a number of Clubs might have reservations about loaning us players. At least Leshabela is now getting game time at Crewe.

Can't wait for 'Salop signing time' at 8pm tonight.
15 minutes of dreaming, Stockton? Bonne? May?
Nope..... a 17 year old kid from Fulham who's never played a professional game but has scored 45 league goals in just 22 games in Prmeier League youth division.

I think some people need to be realistic, of course some of the incoming players (particularly loans) are going to be young & unproven, I've got no problem with that, some of our best loans have been young and unproven - Tyreese Campbell, Kaikai, Carlton Morris, Godfrey, Henderson, Giles, Sarkic etc.
Yes I'd prefer some proven quality but that costs, we can see that with Morecambe allegedly wanting £600k for a 28 year old who has had one decent season.
* EDIT - This is obviously under the assumption that we do actually bring people in, probably a very dangerous assumption

It used to be the majority, as fans were happy making up the numbers in League 1. Now that this is our 8th consecutive season at this level and now an established club at this level, thankfully those opinions are now changing. Probably 50% see us as 'little old Shrewsbury Town' and the other half slowly getting fed up of that viewpoint and want us to be more ambitious.

So because I'm happy to sign a player with limited experience, that means I see us as small time and why our football club won't progress?? You need to join the real world, that is the way football works, there will be lots of clubs who are signing players with zero/limited experience, they are of course a gamble but I've shown you that there are success stories, that one season off Hurst was built off the back of 3 loan players with limited experience. I made it clear that I would prefer quality but there is no way we are going to spend £600k on Cole Stockton. But please enlighten me how you are the type of fan who will take this club forwards as opposed to us small time fans?

I have already convinced myself that this will be an uninspiring transfer window. Ultimately we cut our cloth accordingly.
We are currently up in Settle on a short holiday and my wife has told me to stop looking at my phone and enjoy the scenery 😉
She just doesn't understand the excitement and ultimate despondency of transfer deadline day 😅
Anyroadup we are just heading off to view the Ribblehead viaduct so will try and check progress later this evening 😀
Who knows, I may be pleasantly shocked, or not 😅
Beautiful part of the world by the way 😊

I can't take any more of this. I'm off for a couple of beers and will return to see if there are any developments later on. At the moment, the nearest we seem to have got to a signing is a striker who failed to score in 18 appearances for Burton when on loan.

Wouldn't it be great "pay per view" to have a camera following all the drama of the last day on the manager, chairman and the Head of recruitment (what ever the f**k that means) to see what actually happens on that final day. Blind panic at its glorious best. I'd pay that over going to the match any day of the week. Talking of club statements regarding Street. "we've had our eye on him for a while".......No ya haven't Cotterill.....

Why are we interested in yet another forward when we don't have a midfield?..oh Cotterillball !..we don't need a midfield 🤪
