Not a rumour but interesting couple of stories in the Star today, Moore signed for us because of Steve Cotterill and Dave Edwards influenced Dunkley to sign for us. When you add in the Coventry connections, it's amazing that people are signing for us because of past connections considering our manager supposedly having such a bad reputation in the game.

Being demanding and a touch abrasive doesn't make you a bad manager - remember Fergie.

Reading some udder club's forums, some of them don't like Cotterill Juan bit.
Things like that just endear me to him personally.
Any road up, I just want him to manage my football team, I wasn't going to invite him out to dinner.

If we get a whiff of success in the coming season, I hope he maintains his focus better than one of his predecessors.

I don't think for a minute that our present leader is the type to slither under the exit door.

I agree JT. I think it’s quite possible that he came to Salop not so much to re-launch his career with a view to moving on quickly to a bigger club but rather to have one more project where he can have prolonged success and the challenge of establishing a lesser-known club in the Championship. He is at a completely different stage in his career to the reptilian one so I’m pretty confident that he sees himself here for several years.

I would say that the type of player we need and are getting will take SC as he is and will appreciate him being tough with them because they will know he is doing it to get the best out of them.
He’s not a John Bond who will criticise them as it suits him. Whatever needs saying he will say in private and that is to be respected as far as I am concerned.

Comments on Oliver and Mandron signing elsewhere suggest that people think we need one more striker. My opinion is that we are probably ok in that area (Udoh, Bowman, Bloxham, O'Brien and Caton already in place for a maximum of 2-3 places). Hopefully there will be two or three more coming in to bolster the midfield (ideally a defensive midfielder of Fornah's quality) and the left side of defence.
However, if Pyke can be offloaded I can see the possibility of a pacy young forward on loan to add to the five listed above.
Knowing SC's preference for a smaller, tighter squad, I don't expect a lot more activity before 30th July.

Agree with you, think that we are looking at squad players now as the first eleven looks pretty good. Be interesting to see if we have any trialists playing against Telford. Also an opportunity to see if Telford have any rough diamonds that we can quarry from our new found feeder club😆😆

Have we previously had any trialists whilst SC has been in charge?

You are correct, but it was under Ricketts and not Askey. Time has flown these past few years!

Have we previously had any trialists whilst SC has been in charge? Well he's only had one summer previously, and that was mid covid. So maybe different this year.

2 weeks to go - all very quiet.......
Assuming we are playing a 3-5-2 this really is a threadbare squad:
GK Marosi - Burgoyne back up WBL Nurse - Leahy back up DC Pennington DC Flanagan - Moore back up DC Dunkley WBR Dacosta - Bennett back up MC Leahy MC Shipley - Barlow back up MC Bayliss ST Udoh - Bloxham backup ST O'Brien - Bowman back up
Asking Barlow to be the main cover for Midfield is a bit much, given that Leahy would have to cover left back; we'd probably need the other youngster Craig on the bench to provide another defensive option. That just leaves Caton and Pyke to bring into the matchday squad if we have any injuries.

Moore played as a defensive mid against Telford. Udoh and Bloxham at times played off a front two or wide as part of a front 3 (and O'Brien could definitely do the same). But yes I'd still hope for another 2 or 3 players. Left wing back and a defensive mid and possibly another player across the front 3.

Could do without Udoh and/or Marosi leaving. I actually think we’re ok on numbers especially given that we’ll add 1-2 loan’s until Jan or for a full season.

Possibly because we did it before, the player was called back, they never played him and then he went somewhere else?
