Be prepared for some serious heat. When I went over (to visit my uncle and his family who have lived there for 12 years), we landed at 11.30pm and walked out of an air conditioned airport into 98f If you walk anywhere you are thought to be completely mad, my sis passed out after a 15 min stroll it was that hot Pretty intense heat and humidity. You've got to be really careful with the heat, the beach was a 1-2 hour a day maximum before it got too much. It's a fantastic place though. Hotels are excellent, the Jumeirah Beach and Burj al Arab are spectacular but very expensive (you MUST go to the Wild Wadi water theme park thats on the complex though - great fun). Also wait for darkness and the Burj turns into a massive light tower for an hour every evening. Metropolitan is a nice hotel, as is the Emirates Tower. If you fancy a shop then there are massive malls but also some great souks for spices, and gold. The gold is super cheap, I picked up £500 of stuff for about £130. Haggling is compulsory! Basically every facility is done in style, from the golf courses to the yacht club and the airport (BEST duty free in the world). If you fancy a few drinks stock up in the duty free on your way in as alcohol is VERY expensive in the hotel bars (£4-5 a pint territory). Clubs do have ladies nights though there was a great one in the emirates tower where my sister and cousin got bladdered for nowt Out of town the desert scenery is amazing, and although they may not be your scene, the racecourse (Nad al Sheba) and the camel track are worth a visit. Stunning and you will love it there, I'm just waiting for my bab to get a bit older before we go back as its so so hot.................

would be cool sky diving too in the desert ! can i come too! check out www.activeskydiving.co.uk Scotty runs these courses all over the place. For my booking he is just waiting for confirmation that he can get us booked into the Dubai Boogie (boogie = gathering of large groups of skydivers looking to make mulitple jumps, meet other skydivers and drink lots of beer) then its all systems go. I know another guy from Shrews who is booked on a course with Scotty in California in early Feb it appears he is one of the most respected instructors
