Good evening! This is the business end of the season. A chance for the folk of the city of Wrexham to add some more domestic silverware to an already distinguished trophy cabinet. Possibly followed by another trip to Wembley to secure promotion. Our owners will be there tomorrow to see another chapter of our history written. 🍹🍺 But you wont be........ could write that part for you.

Yes, FA Vase before our game. Newport Pagnell vs Littlehampton. We’re in London now and the place is absolutely seething with Sunderland. Fair play, they create a great atmosphere. Pilch - Welcome to the city of Wrexham thread: the Racecourse is our cathedral. it didn't all fit but i got the gist in

Wrexham haven't got passed the semi yet. Plenty of time for them to cock it up.

Regarding the ‘city’ status:
‘The Platinum Jubilee civic honours competition required applicants to show their cultural heritage and royal links as well as how their local identity and communities meant they deserved to be granted city status’.
This was their application and reasoning:
Wrexham - North Wales
Established in 1864, Wrexham Football Club is among the oldest professional football clubs in the UK and is owned by Hollywood stars - the actor Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
The area, with a population of 61,603, is home to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a Unesco World Heritage site
Compare it to Bangor - Northern Ireland
Due to its location at the mouth of the Belfast Lough, Bangor, with a population of 61,011, was a key site for the Allies during the Second World War
In May 1944, Supreme Commander of Allied Forces Dwight D Eisenhower, who later became US president, gave a speech to 30,000 assembled troops in Bangor shortly before ships left for Normandy and the D-Day landings
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh visited Bangor Castle in 1961 and, after lunching at the Royal Ulster Yacht Club that day, the duke part in a regatta race
So Bangor gained their status on their connections to World War II, the Royal family and former US Presidents leading troops into battle.
Wrexham gained theirs on two Yank actors that have owned a non league football club for five minutes, and a bridge!!!
Must’ve been loads of Welsh applicants given that criteria?!

Your local Conservative MP, Sarah Atherton, wishes Wrexham "Athletic" (sic) good luck tomorrow.
Wrexham, an ancient ground is their cathedral and the prayer books have handles and contain Holy water, aka Wrexham lager.
May God save and rehabilitate all those entering the City walls.

Someone did tell me Atherton is going to the game today. I hope she’s not, don’t like to hear booing at a game. Should be a good occasion later. Newport Pagnell have sold 7,000 tickets, which is absolutely brilliant for a town with a population of 15,000. Think we’ve sold about 23,000, so hopefully there’ll be 40,000+. I know you’ll all join me in hoping for no red cards and injuries to key players like Mullin, or anything that may hamper our promotion back to the FL in two weeks time. 👍🏴
COME ON CITY!!!

I won't be watching this afternoon's irrelevant kickabout. I like The National League games and am looking forward to the play-offs, but I can't get excited about this nondescript trophy.
As for city status, there had to be Juan in Wales, so it was probably a choice between Wrexham and LLanfairpwiigwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, and you can imagine the uproar if the Prince of Wales had that shouted at him at the presenting ceremony. He'd probably come out looking like he was covered in frogspawn.

Ryan and Rob are going to be there; we’re wearing our lucky white kit; the sky is blue; a celebration of us being promoted to city status; thousands of Welsh voices getting your national stadium rocking (our ground is the oldest international stadium in the world that’s still in use btw). Still time for you to get in the car and down the M54. Come on, wave that red and white scarf and sing your hearts out for CITY!

I think we have to accept that Wrexham fans will be getting a bit excited about today. However they need to understand in the wider world of football most other fans have no knowledge of today's match. As long as they can accept it's their big day out but for everyone else today is totally irrelevant.

To play devils advocate here...Bangor has nothing going for it anymore. I used to chase the girls down by the marina there in my youth. But now the high street is dead with closed shops and it's full of drugs. The similarities with Wrexham are uncanny! The sympathy vote theory stands fast with these two cities. P.s. did someone tell them the Pontcysyllte aquaduct is not near Wrexham?

I would imagine a few Wrexham fans will have an ear turned to the Liverpool and City games. Leaves me totally unmoved if I’m honest. I liked the top league in the days of Gerald Sindstat and Barry Davies, but really not arsed with it. Got a feeling I’ll change my mind in about 6 years time. Rob and Ryan have big plans!! 🤞🏴👍

I'm going to watch some paint dry. More entertaining. Watching proper football on tv or the local girls under elevens (my youngest granddaughter). “City of Wrexham” and “City of Milton Keynes”. Same dumps, different names. As the saying goes, “ you can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig”.
