Must mention an amusing, if slightly bazaar, incident from Saturday. An elderly First Aid guy, who had been leaning against a wall, was approached by a steward in a, very official looking, orange jacket. He was told, in no uncertain terms, to “stop sitting on the wall” Protesting his innocence, and saying that he wasn’t sitting, but standing, he was then on the receiving end of a tirade from the Steward. After being abused, humiliated and no doubt terrified (he was clearly a right hard nut, as he wore the shaved haircut that only the toughest of the tough dare sport) by this guardian of the rules, he picked up his gear and retreated, muttering that First-Aid cover would be removed, so no more games would be played. The Steward then stood upright, stuck out his chin, Mussolini style, and surveyed his Empire, daring anyone to challenge his authority. Several supporters around me commented on the fact that he was a right t0sser, but I suspect he wouldn’t have given a damn. It is, however, comforting to see that they’re the same the world over. Do they have to be a special kind of person, or can you teach this kind of attitude?

I loved the line of orange stewards present for a 12pm kick off against Mansfield, who brought around 200 well behaved fans with them. Stewards were notable for their absence in the games against Wrexham and Swansea when there was problems. Our stewards are the lowest paid in the Football League apparantly.........

I was hoping the steward was going to have a cardiac arrest and would then wonder where the first aiders had gone

There's a very apt article in the current edition of the fanzine regarding some stewards

so was that you in the Crown Islay? Indeed it was. Old and small - That's why I have to keep the banter with JP at a fair distance. ;D I'm delighted to see you're still posting, as I really feared that a large jar of pills, washed down with a bottle of scotch, was a serious possibility No doubt the acceptance of your recent proposal has had a lot to do with getting things into perspective. Congratulations.
