It just goes to show how low our expectations are and also how much poorer we are as a team now (in terms of quaity players) than we were when we dropped out two seasons ago.
We now look to Ryan Lowe as one of our best players, when we really know he is inconsistent and average as best and indeed was only a bit part player in our relegation.
When we went down we had Jemmo, Woan, Atkins, amoungst others, all quality experienced players at the higher level...what now we're relying on inexperienced players...
I worry..... but at the same time have faith in Peters, I'm just not sure he has the raw material to work with....

Lowe still managed 13 goals as a 'bit part' player in that season. Perhaps if he was played as a striker (remember he is actually a striker) then he might score a few more. Play him out on the wing (remember he is not a winger) then what can we expect?

He did a damn more to try and save salop from relegation as a bit part player than someone like Woan who turned up and stood on the touchline looking p**sed off for 90minutes...

How many gilt edged chances did he also miss in that year? I can recall us drawing/losing several games in that year (and other years) where he really should have scored. Even when played as a stiker his goals to chances ratio is very poor.
Playing well in one game in four or five is not good enough... Not up to it I'm afraid... (along with several others of the squad)

And how many goals did he set up? I seem to remember quite a few players missing 'guilt edged' chances that season

Agree Carter - Lowe the Fans Fav vs Lowe the Player - i think Lowe is over rated by town fans in general - for what - being a cheeky scouser??
People bang on abou the goals in the conf but even they have dryed up now hes took the step back up.
If we had anyone of quality on the right i would have no problems seeing the back of him
But the hero worship of him from the riverside has garenteed him his start every week, form or not.
Wise up peters and look to more options on the right please.

We now look to Ryan Lowe as one of our best players, when we really know he is inconsistent and average as best and indeed was only a bit part player in our relegation. Eer, but he can actually play. He can run with the ball at his feet - and keep it. He can move away from defenders - rare, and he seems to be able to think about what to do next, while in possesion - almost unheard of. Maybe if he had been less of a "bit part player" instead of watching a bunch of 'meal-ticket' old pros go through the motions, relegation could have been avoided. I know I'm only going on one match. but if a guy can play, then he can play.

"People bang on abou the goals in the conf but even they have dryed up now hes took the step back up. "
The exact same thing can be said of Luke Rodgers, another player who has a massive following despite his best performances being 18 + months ago.

Lou Krodgers was playing with jemmo then and getting killer passes from Atkins and Woan which Mr Allen was on about on the origin of this thread ... we aint good enough

Even when played as a stiker his goals to chances ratio is very poor. quote] no more misses than the likes of Jemmo I'd guess. And who can forget the influence of Watts/Partridge? The team was poor, and poorly managed thats what relegated us. Promotion or relegation is not influenced by 1 player alone. [Lou Krodgers was playing with jemmo then and getting killer passes from Atkins and Woan which Mr Allen was on about on the origin of this thread] must of missed the 'killer' instincts of Atkins/Woan that year , sorry! The likes of Luke, Ryan Sam etc will always divide us. For me Luke always looked dependant on Jemmo, and Jemmos attributes. He has not been replaced, and lukes form has suffered. Equally I doubt very much that Luke has adapted or developed his game sufficiently enough to work in the post Jemmo era. Ryan - looks a prospect up front, but is never going to be given the time/patience we have with Luke. A shame as he has always frustrated and looked frustrated on the wing. Sam - Exciting to watch. Gets the ball down and has only one direction on his mind. End product has not improved in the 3/4yrs hes been at the club.

Give me Lowe on the right over Woan (during Town carreer) on the left any day of the week.
What did he do for us?? Scored away at Southend and scored at Macclesfield as well as taking the free kick for jemmo to score against everton and a good game against Crewe if i recall correctly. offered feck all in the run in, just put in gutless performances as if they were going out of fashion, never really showed an interest in playing for the club, just happy to collect the cash before heading back to America.
Not much of a contribution from a player who was supposed to have class in abundance.
Yet Woan is lorded, while Lowe is slated.

Woan gave the impression of not being bothered towards the end of the 02/03 season (he wasn't the only one) but at times he was a joy to watch.

Lowe has been infuriatingly brilliant in his Town career. Loads of goals from midfield but inconsistent in terms of performances.
He'd definitley be in my starting line-up though, be it as a striker or on the right wing. He's got a lot of ability and hopefully GP will somehow get some consistency out of him.

I often wonder what games and statistics looks at.
It was no coincidence that our attacking prowess fell away after Ryan's injury on Saturday.
Before then, Langmead, Lowe and Rodgers had linked up well on a number of occasions. I say give them more chances.

What gave me the impression?
the genral air of his game, bottled tackles, didnt track back, didnt go looking for the ball and often appeared as if he was happy for the game to bypass him.
A player with class? Well its no good having class if you are no prepared to stamp it on the game, do the work.
Sam gets slated, but at least he's be known to move infield and go and look for the ball as well as track back...
As for Lowe-agree 100% with Anton Thomas
