Seeing some comments on the Rexham thread thought it best to start a Euro 2020 one.
Looking forward to England game on Sunday

France to win it all.
England to get to the Semi finals via at least one penalty shootout.
Wales and Scotland out in the group stage.
Lukaku golden boot.

I'm hoping England make it to the last 4 at least as I will be on holiday so should be good fun watching. Watching England sober bores the hell out of me the majority of the time. Anything above getting out of the group stages will be a bonus.

Really like a monkey of the back isn't it the thought of penalties, used to have nightmares about them. Knew we were in trouble if we could never settle things in the 120 minutes. But they say all good things come to those who wait and haven't we just. Do hope this brings us all a bit of joy; the summer has started, the warmer weather is back and with restrictions lifting, the beer gardens are open and we have football to watch. Really looking forward to this. Will be doing my best to get every game in. Come on England!! Oh aye, predications. France to win it. England to make it to the semis. Wales to make the quarters. Scotland won't make it out of the group. π

I was thinking thereβd be a repeat of the 2016 final with France winning this time but am not sure whether this is possible with France and Portugal both being in the same group. Group F looks really tough and a top nation sure to be eliminated.
Iβll be very happy if we make it to the semi finals, dodgy defence and crocked players donβt fill me with confidence.

I think itβs possible for a repeat final if they finish 1st and 2nd in Group F, difficult to determine as we donβt know which groups the 4 best place 3rd place teams will be from which will affect who plays who in the knockout rounds, but according these predictions of mine they can though I predicted Germany to finish 2nd in Group F Group A 1. Italy 2. Turkey 3. Switzerland Group B 1. Belgium 2. Denmark Group C 1. Netherlands 2. Ukraine Group D 1. England 2. Croatia 3. Czech Republic Group E 1. Spain 2. Poland 3. Sweden Group F 1. France 2. Germany 3. Portugal Last 16 Turkey v Denmark Italy v Ukraine Netherlands v Sweden Belgium v Portugal Croatia v Poland France v Switzerland England v Germany Spain v Czech Republic Quarter finals France v Croatia Belgium v Italy Netherlands v Denmark Spain v England Semi finals Belgium v France England v Netherlands

Weβre lacking leadership at the back and desperately need Harry Maguire back fit ASAP to stand a better chance of going all the way.
Canβt see either of Scotland or Wales making it out of their groups. England & Croatia and Italy & Turkey to go through those groups for me.
Obviously France & England are the majority of peopleβs favourites but my dark horses would be Italy. Currently on a 26 game unbeaten record.

France is a safe bet, reigning World Champions and a squad blessed with depth and quality so hard not to fancy them. I was reading this morning that Chris Waddell fancies Italy as slight dark horses, as mentioned by Salop18 they are on a 26 game unbeaten run and are playing more expansive attacking football as opposed to making themselves hard to beat and winning games 1-0 so they may be a less obvious choice as winners. Portugal and Belgium are also strong and Germany have the knack of coming good for big tournaments.... Would love to think that England could be in the mix but realistically, I think we'll get to the quarters and possibly the semis - cue us now not getting out of the group As much as anything, I'm just looking forward to having some (hopefully) good games to enjoy over the coming weeks.

To South Stand Salopian, I appreciate the work you did above, but I was referring to a Portugal v France final - a repeat of 2016.
Anyway, it looks like being a fascinating tournament and great to have fans back.
Talk of dark horses is a reminder that this is a tournament in which they can do well, remember Greece and Denmark? Although whether a great footballing nation like Italy qualify as dark horses is debatable.

I fancy Belgium to win it.
I think it will be a low key tournament for my country Wales, with no Giggs in charge we will do well to even progress out of our group.

That'll see a fair bit of noise around these parts if that's comes through for you. We have an Italian who lives close by. Never met him or seen him but at every major international tournament whenever Italy score he must be hanging out of his window with his airhorn in hand giving it loads. You find yourself watching and waiting. Great to hear.

One thing we do know is that you canβt predict the Euros and there will more than one βshockβ team who progress further than we anticipate and at least one βbigβ team that wonβt get out of the group stage. Looking forward to it!

England have had a very disrupted preparation but I am hoping they will improve in the defensive side of their game. As for the attack will Southgate start with his tried and trusted players or will he go for the less experienced in form players? The group stage will not be a walkover but hopefully a couple of good performances will give us a bit of momentum for the closing stages.

Just having a chin wag with the lads here and whilst our preparations perhaps aren't the best, I've just been reminded abut how thankful we should be for the group we find ourselves in. Fair point. As isn't the feeling that whilst Croatia were better than us in 2018, with a younger side out that night we will have progressed since then and so we should be better this time around? And whilst any game against Scotland is going to be difficult, we have to be favorites for that. As we should be against the Czech Republic. The Germans however, are up against it from the off with a game against World Cup winners France and then reining champions Portugal. Easy game to finish off with against Hungary of course but by that time... Group F is going to be great viewing.

I'm backing Britain, England, Wales or Scotland to be the shock team that goes much further than expected.

Gwyneddblue would like me to say that if he wants advice from you brother, itβll be about Staffordshire Bull Terriers or North Staffordshire Oatcakes.

We are so reliant on Bale and Ramsey and yet they've not been that impressive in recent games. I would of course loved to be proved wrong mind π

I did the euro predictor to see who I think would do well and it came out as exactly the same final as euro 2016! gaming.uefa.com/en/uefaeuro2020tournamentpredictor/I can't work out if I'm looking forward to this yet. The format change seems to suggest to me that the group stages will be more or less meaningless as even if there are upsets, it may not even mean big teams go out at this stage. And there is a pretty clear worst team in most groups. Am hoping Covid doesn't impact it too much, but outbreaks are probably inevitable, and I know Spain have already had some players test positive.

I wouldn't rely on bale or Ramsey to much, they'll be relying on james, Brooks, and co to do there running for them.bale might last an hour, especially if it's hotπππ

Tonight's match is intriguing - one dark horse (Turkey) against a team that's going under the radar but is unbeaten in 27 matches (Italy).
I've not checked the knock out round permutations but fancy both these teams could make the QFs and wouldn't be surprised to see Italy go beyond that.
Not sure how entertaining tonight's match will be though. Opening match + two strong defences = ?

Are there any new rules being implemented for this competition do we know?

wont be long until all the excitement has long gone and instead we'll be discussing whether or not we should be throwing the next game so as to avoid a big side in the knockout stages and get someone like Iceland instead

Really looking forward to a few weeks of football dominating the TV. England have a great chance, did well with a young side at the World Cup who should now be reaching their prime footballing ages of 25-30 and of course we have Harry Kane. Not only that, we will be playing most of our games on home soil.
However, it is likely we will be playing either Germany, France or Portugal in the 2nd round. Get through that and the trophy has a good chance of 'coming home'.
As for Wales, well Gareth is five years older than in 2016 and he will do well to carry them like he did back then. Scotland will do well to get to the 2nd round and we will never hear the last of it if they beat us, so I hope they get through, but not by beating us.
This tournament can bring some shocks, with Denmark and Greece since the 90's both winners and that famous Czech win against Germany back in the 70's. And football expectancy changed with Leicester in 2016, so how about Slovakia at 500/1. Beat Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in the play offs, Scotland in November. Beaten Russia in World Cup qualifying in March and drawn their two warm up friendlies against Austria and Bulgaria.
C'mon England! And one eye on the Slovaks!

The NI vs Slov playoff was 50/50 and went into extra time. I would suggest other teams were playing fringe players and testing formations/tactics against them. Hence their decent record.
