it doesnt suggest that to me at all it simply suggests we dont want him, they even extended the deadline by a week and we still dont want him Not to get technical but it clearly does imply that, as evidenced by the number of people who've inferred that that's what's happened. To "miss a deadline" generalky implies you were at least trying to meet it. Could just be a poorly worded article though. unless we didnt want to extend it, in which case we would have done nothing twice !

To "miss a deadline" generalky implies you were at least trying to meet it. Could just be a poorly worded article though. The headline is from Newcastle's perspective. If they say there's a deadline and then hear nothing as the date passes, then they'll say the deadline was missed. From our perspective that could mean, as Pilch says, we didn't want to sign him and let the deadline pass. If we were saying we missed the deadline that would suggest we messed up, but not this way round. Typically, there are some who'll make the assumption that we wanted to sign the player but cocked up. Call it confirmation bias, or something like that. Cotterill's the manager - it's up to him.

Sounds like SC doesn't rate him or we forgot to do the admin during the SR and SC changeover! Hope we can sort as I like him. Who else have we got as a RB? Vela?!?! Or Roland wouldn’t / couldn’t make the decision in time... May be that SC wants to bring as many if his own players in ASAP which is OK as long as he brings a better player in

'Cotterill said he didn't believe there was a trigger deadline'. Sounds like an admin error to me. Nahhh it’s The Shrewsbury Way. A deadline was mentions on here a couple of weeks ago. If we knew how come the club didn’t?

Of course, Matt Millar himself might have other ideas. If he's ok here socially then doubt he's going back, but might go to another league club here. He’s contracted to Newcastle Jets

Clearly there’s nothing stopping us still bidding, if they were prepared to put a clause in only a few months ago they’re obviously open to the idea of selling him.

Well, whatever the reason, it's a real disappointment.
I thought he looked good. Athletic, strong, quick, a real trier.
Of course, if SC brings in someone like him, or dare I say, better. He'll be forgotten.

Is this going to be one of those "non signings " where we never really get the truth as to why..? The irony is it's possibly the only thing on this message board that we all agree on...Millar is worth keeping! Last night showed how we have gone backwards regarding the squad. I don't necessarily mean the quality of the players, but what we've done with them. I have alot of friends who are Brentford fans and they are puzzled as to how a player who has played a number of times for them and needs a bit more match time, can't even make our bench !

Not really surprising. I’d imagine Pugh and Daniels will be joining him out the door in January. New managers always have targets they want to bring to the club. I’d be surprised when we start next season if there are more than 4 of this current squad in the first team.

My point is Brentford rate him, as do alot of there fans and have strong hopes for him. They are the role model for any club wishing to do things the correct way. Someone has got it wrong. There a top six championship side and we're bottom of division one...

Bright spark yes, but hes not contracted, we have one or two midfielders, SC will want to bring in a player or two and we need the space in our league squad limit thingy.
Expecting Pugh and Daniels to go for same reasons

I think Millar gave us another dimension to our play with his energy and swash-buckling style and it would be a shame to see him go. Perhaps SC has somebody else already lined up for the position. After all, he didn't exactly give Millar a glowing review when asked by Cox. I think the best he could muster was that he was "a good athlete." Perhaps Millar wants to get into the Australian Olympic Football team that have qualified for Tokyo next year. I suppose Roland could fly over and have dinner with the Jets CEO to see if he could thrash out a deal.

He has actually been one of the biggest disappointments for me, Brentford fans held him in high esteem and it sounded like we had got ourselves a real star. But on the few occasions I've seen him he looked out of his depth at this level

Two things spring to mind here... why set a December 1st deadline when the transfer window doesn’t even open for another month and what would the player himself actually like to do? He’s under contract to Newcastle Jets so they’re entitled to recall him but have they even spoken to him and asked for his feedback?
He has impressed me over the last few games so would be a blow if true, but we have to move on if it is the case.

Really disappointed - I liked the look of him and thought that we would be keen to sign him up. Probably the first casualty of the changeover, whatever the story. I’d expect more, Seems most managers can’t wait to clear out what they inherited and SC doesn’t wrap anything up. I’d reckon on super Shaun to be the last man standing.

If he’d have joined long term he could have turned out to be one of Ricketts’ best signings in terms of sell-on value. Certainly on recent form. Looks like he’s got lots of the attributes needed to make it at this level and hasn’t looked out of place.
Already got a big squad and we don’t know how many spaces we’ll be able to free up. Cotterill might just need to keep his options open at the moment.

There a top six championship side and we're bottom of division one... I wonder how the Brentford model will pan out after Brexit. It's based on them scounting the best players released by academies here plus players from less fashionable leagues around Europe. The later option is surely going to be trickier with getting work permits.
FIFA said a few days ago after Jan 1 UK clubs will no longer be allowed to sign 16-17 yo players from within the EU. They have granted an exception too allow them to be signed from clubs in 4 UK home nations.

Strange the story about Millar isn't in today's Shropshire Star. Does this mean that this saga isn't over yet?

There's an interview with Ollie Norburn and for some obscure reason it’s the last paragraph of this.
