Charlton into the Valley fans forum seem concerned that there is no match thread for their game so I thought I would start one!! Looking at their thoughts Smudge seems a bit of a !! intothevalley.proboards.com/thread/25460/shrewsbury-charlton-match-thread-reaction. I saw a big improvement Wednesday night and hopeful we can turn another better performance v Charlton into a win. 2-1 would be grand. Ps...nonkne here likes lee Bowyer if you are reading this 🤡

Smudge seems a typical Charlton fan to me. Thinks his club should be better than they actually are, or have been for quite a few years now. They are in our league for one reason and one reason only. Sorry Smudge to point out the obvious.
Its games like this that I really do like to see us win, to wipe the smiles off people like him and their obnoxious manager.
Will we win? Who knows, but I've got a bit more hope now than i would have had a week ago with Ricketts still in charge.

Could be a good battle between Pugh and Gunter if both selected. Both played at high level.

Reckon that one poster on the Charlton forum that seems to dislike us for whatever reason is still annoyed we managed to handily dismantle them in the playoffs a couple of seasons ago. No other reason for anyone to hate Shrewsbury is there?

Never judge a club by its fans' forum. In my only visit to the Valley, where we won 2-0 under the glorious leadership of He who shall not be named, I found their club staff and their fans nice, good old-fashioned football people. Their manager is another matter but I get the impression even he is learning a little humility as he gets older. As for the match I predict a rousing 2-0 victory to Town with no goalkeeping or centre-back errors. Come on you Blues!

Interesting to see what the team is. Most seem to do well at Accrington and will be only one enforced change as walker is out, but presumably will be replaced by EEL. But games are coming thick and fast now so possibly a few changes due to fitness. Golbourne in for Daniels? Pugh and Edwards back in?

2-2 we take the lead twice and throw away 2 points in added time Nothing like negativity is there. A few more fans like this and league 2 here we come. I think Charlton will have a wake up call in this match. Our lads are starting to grow in confidence and have nothing to lose. The lads would be up for it . Score wise we will win by 1 goal or draw. Either way good result.

Am I the only one feeling optimistic? If we can carry the way we played in the second half against Accrington into this game I think we have half a chance. The players have had a few more days with Steve and now he’s starting to get the coaching pieces around the team he wants. I feel we might surprise Charlton.

I really wonder what’s sort of footballing brain you have. Ok, I will be reasonable here. Tell us all how you think the team should play against Charlton. Me not knowing much about the game, we are looking from a steer from you.

Me not knowing much about the game, we are looking from a steer from you. I don’t know who is fit or not, makes a difference. , either way I’d like Edwards and Pugh to get a decent run, only real criticism from Tuesday we only used 2 subs, can hardly moan about fitness and not use 3 subs, and then concede in the 96th min, I thought that was the kind of ammo we used to beat Ricketts with

More of the same from the 2nd half against Accy would be good, and a drive that doesn't take me four hours from Suffolk like it did on Wednesday would be nice too.

Match the level of performance we showed on Wednesday and we have an excellent chance.
Personally, I am just looking forward to getting out again and seeing mates.
Happy days.

Exactly the same for me, managed to find somewhere where I can meet mates for a beer which was very difficult. Wednesdays performance gives cause for a bit of optimism too, otherwise it would probably be only the social element which I'd be looking forward to

The biggest disappointment for me this season has not been on the management side but the position of goalkeeper. I have supported the club for nearly seventy years and am of the opinion that over that period of time no other lower league club can boast the quality of keeper that we have consistently had. Without the goalkeeping mistakes this season we would be mid table and Sam Ricketts probably wouldnt have lost his job. Until that position is sorted the threat of relegation will remain. I am sure it will be in the mind of the manager in January as a top priority. Trouble is we have been spoilt over the years. My earliest memory was Russell Crossley in his thick green roll necked keepers jumper and from then onwards we have been blessed with goalkeeping quality. (Benny Gall the possible exception)

I think the disappointing thing for me this season is that under Ricketts there were times when we did look OK, there were signs that things might well improve. But we were simply unable to take that into the next game. We were all over the shop, up and down.
So here we go again only this time, lets see how it works out. A very encouraging 90 minutes on Wednesday, lets see if we now have a manager in Cotterill who can look to maintain that over a number of games. Perhaps even improve on it (although that might be asking a tad too much of course).
So lets see us build on a good performance, lets see us show some consistency. That'll be a good start to things.
And I think those who turned up on Wednesday will have been disappointed with the draw, I reckon they will have been glad to have attended. And I suspect a good few making the trip today will be looking forward to it. That's something at least, as I suspect that wouldn't have been the case if we hadn't have changed things.
Up the Town!!

Sarkic looks the best option and will probably get a run for the next month but I wouldn't be surprised if that is a clear signing point for January.

Well, Sarkic is here for the season and Burgoyne is on a contract for the best part of 2 more years and no way can we afford to have3 senior keepers.

Think season long loans can be ended in January if required (??). Bit worrying that we have Burgoyne here regardless unless he can be worked on to stop the errors. So Sarkic may get returned just to get another keeper in.

First time I’m going to a game since the end of last season, is there a do’s and don’ts list on the website? Just wondering what exactly the protocol is etc, thanks in advance if anyone can link me.

Keepers of his age need to be playing regularly, but at present there is lots of improvement needed.

(Benny Gall the possible exception) Showing my age here, but I am almost sure Harry Rowley was the keeper when my dad first me to a game at the old Meadow !! Definitely remember Pat Egglestone playing for the Town though. Yes, we have had some excellent keepers over the years........ and maybe a couple or four duff ones.
