This South Africa match is on a knife edge right now. The Saffers need 58 to win from a shade over 10 overs in the biggest English cricket match of the year thus far.
Expect me and a good portion of this thread will be crawling to bed once this one is done!

Chloe Tryon run out backing up. Huge wicket.
Whilst I’ve only watched about half these World Cup matches in their entirety, I’ve already lost count of the number of wickets like that. Insane.

Well that, as they say, is that. A fantastic match but it wasn’t to be for England.
And that marks bedtime for a series of despondent and shell-shocked B&A cricket lovers. I imagine most are leaving the smashed crockery to be tidied away post-sleep!

Expect me and a good portion of this thread will be crawling to bed once this one is done! Sorry but I think the rest of us were already tucked up and fast asleep. From what I've read they have been very poor, a shadow of the team that won the world cup in 2017.

Well, I'm somewhat more optimistic now about this particular series. But we are still a poor squad in comparison to Aus, NZ, Pak & Ind. Many years ago we had the likes of Trescothick & Anderson coming through from nowhere. Hopefully another couple of players like them - or even a few - will be found. Sooner rather than later. Exactly. This West Indies side is, together with us, at the bottom of the Test Match ratings. So nothing to get over excited about I'm afraid. Plus Anderson and Broad must be very impressed that the likes of Fisher and now even the nominated reserve Norwell are being touted as a replacement for the injured Wood. I've just had a look at the current ICC test rankings and it's 8th vs 4th at the moment. The top 3 (Australia, India and NZ) are streets ahead of us and the rest; India have just beaten Sri Lanka and Australia are well on course to beat Pakistan. www.icc-cricket.com/rankings/mens/team-rankings/test

I would think Saqib Mahmood would also come into the reckoning, ahead of Fisher and Norwell. Hopefully the pitch for the second test has a bit more about it too! New look England bowling attack today. Mahmood and Fisher debut.

Robinson again ruled out.
Broad and Anderson must be seething.

Robinson again ruled out. Broad and Anderson must be seething. I imagine they were seething at the time, but may be affording themselves a few smiles now. Good luck to the debutants though, hopefully we don’t see them until tomorrow.

Another test hundred for Joe Root, 50 up also for Dan Lawrence. Shame that Dan Lawrence missed out on a maiden test century after being so positive in his play; he certainly got the score board moving. Day 2 just about underway. England 244 for 3.

Another road prepared by the groundsman.
7 bowlers used by England 🙄

Is this the best World Cup of all time? What a win for England vs New Zealand, the dreams are still alive.
Possibly the most riveting English cricket moment since the men’s World Cup final super over.

Let’s see how the Windies do on this wicket.
Looks like the groundsman has tried to do something different😂😂

Crawley blows hot and cold for sure.
He needs to be much more consistent.
And more problems for England, Joe Root out, England 27 for 2.
