And the Parliamentary Select Committee to come... currently live on BBC Parliament and BBC news. Shocking some of the language used towards Azeem Rafiq. Very strong and powerful testimony.

We are going to lose a generation of talented Asian cricketers to the game unless the culture is changed and changed quickly.
The ECB needs to step up now. Take ownership for goodness sake.

Rafiq was asked about allegations former Yorkshire team-mate Gary Ballance, who admitted calling him a P---, routinely called non-white people “Kevin” as a term of abuse.
“Kevin was something Gary used to describe everyone of colour, in a very derogatory manner,” he said.
“This is an open secret in the England dressing room.” Ballance has categorically denied this.
Rafiq suggested it went as far as Alex Hales naming his dog Kevin in 2017 “because it was black”, adding: “It’s disgusting just how much of a joke it was.”
Alex Hales, like Joe Clarke, just can't help pressing the self destruct button. Can't see Eoin Morgan or the ECB being over impressed.
Vaughan, Hoggard, Bresnan and David Lloyd all cited by Rafiq as well.

This whole sorry affair is going to get worse before it improves.
There are some high profile names likely to be terminated from lucrative Media contracts

Why has it taken these cricketers more than ten years to make these claims?

Why has it taken these cricketers more than ten years to make these claims? 10 years? Have you actually been following the select committee this morning and what was said? I tell you something for nothing, it can take time to build up the courage, the conviction to challenge bullying, harassment and in this case racism.

And during this time he tried to speak out, as he said: "But I just felt isolated. It's a horrible feeling. And I knew I should speak out and say something and I nearly always didn't. But when I finally did I was immediately isolated. I was made to feel like I was the one who had done something wrong." Given what we now know it's no wonder he didn't speak out sooner. It is absolutely shameful how little support he received from his employer during this time.

Does the timescale really matter? I would imagine a sportsman with a short career might feel that career could be even shorter if they "make waves", making other clubs think twice about taking them on.

All part of the "bury Boris" campaign. Jouno's would have known all about any wandering hands years ago. but back then they were backing Boris to win elections.

Do you believe him or not?

This is like something from 30 or 40 years ago, when I used to take an interest in cricket. The love that young Asians in this country have for the game isn't something the ECB or the counties should cut themselves off from.

Never mind, you've clearly made up your mind who is telling the truth despite the evidence from only one side. I hope to God you never find yourself on jury service.

I follow the journalist George Dobell on Twitter and he's posted some very interesting things in recent weeks concerning this episode as he has been close to Azeem. He said the day before Gary Ballance was due to be named, Azeem rang him at 6am to make sure that Gary had the relevant help & support when his name came out, it doesn't strike me as the actions of a man motivated by revenge, money etc.

I hope to God you never find yourself in the same position. Did you actually listen to his testimony today? Do you believe him or not? Others featured in this story have denied the claims. Never mind, you've clearly made up your mind who is telling the truth despite the evidence from only one side. I hope to God you never find yourself on jury service. David Lloyd has made a public apology, Matthew Hoggard has apologised to Azeem, Gary Ballance has admitted using racist language, Warwickshire have reprimanded Tim Bresnan after he admitted using racist language, Yorkshire have published a report which admitted racist language was used (and I could go on). If you are waiting for evidence from the other side to argue these claims, I think you'll have a long wait (it appears Vaughan is the only one sticking to his guns). Yorkshire were asked to send representation to yesterdays hearing, they chose not. Many players/officials were asked to be involved in the enquiry that Yorkshire put in place, many chose not to. And as for that report itself, Yorkshire were continually chased for it and once they finally did release it, it was a heavily redacted version, as far as I'm aware the full report has not been made public yet. When the one side is unwilling to share their version of events, its easy to draw conclusions as to why.

I think Yorkshire County Cricket Club, more than most, are living in the past and were forced, kicking and screaming, to allow those not born in Yorkshire to play for the club. The whole episode gives the impression that anyone from outside is not one of us and should be treated differently.

It seems there are enough self-appointed judges on this thread.

It seems there are enough self-appointed judges on this thread. Pathetic. Do you walk around with your eyes closed and fingers in your ears or is that just your default setting on here?
