This dire batting performance is one way of getting cricket fans to switch over to the hundred.

The ECB no longer has any respect for our domestic red ball cricket, and sadly today it shows.
Shameful really.

Shocking stats. No where near good enough but sadly, Root excepted we don't have batsmen good enough to build big test scores.

I didn’t even realise there was a test starting today, says it all really.
If the players can’t be bothered with test cricket, then I don’t see why spectators should. Slow death of test cricket I fear.

Slow death of test cricket I fear. The players aren’t good enough but they’re more or less the best we have. The real issue is why are we not producing test match quality players - batsman particularly, any more. It goes deeper than just match results.

If Sibley is the present solution to us struggling to produce a player who can play a long innings, then surely we have to look elsewhere. A very limited player with a limited range of shots.

Sibley, Burns, Pope and Lawrence have been four of the leading run scorers in County Championship for a few years now. What does that say about the quality of the current first class system in being able to produce test match players?

Sibley, Burns, Pope and Lawrence have been four of the leading run scorers in County Championship for a few years now. What does that say about the quality of the current first class system in being able to produce test match players? And that's the problem, we are stuck in a cycle of looking to the county championship for the top scorers, playing them, realising they are not good enough, dropping them and then 2 years later there are calls for them to be brought back in when they are scoring runs for fun in the championship. As you are aware I've been critical of the 100 and I do think it will make the current situation even worse long term, however I don't think its as simple as saying lets put the championship in the height of summer and move the shorter form of the games around to accommodate it, we do need to look the county championship and see how it be changed/improved. Every time we lose a test/series there is always a lot of melodramatic 'worst side I can remember', 'test cricket is dying' and of course I've seen a lot of that after the first day of the first test. But I do think the ECB are buying their heads in the sand a bit with the test format, I've seen a few people suggest that a hammering off India and then in the Ashes may force them to act in the same way it did when we get humiliated in the one day world cup. Of course I don't want us to lose but 2021 is shaping up to be a dismal year with a hammering in India, defeat at home to New Zealand and then two difficult series. But you never know, we bowl them out for 150 today and all is right with the world

How many shots has Alistair Cook got? I remember Sir Geoff Boycott cutting out the hook shot, for example, as he thought it was too risky. He therefore reduced his range of strokes but we are desperately in need of the likes of Cook and Boycott at the moment.

Need boycott to coach them, how to bat properly, and tell them that test match cricket lasts 5 days not 1 !!!!!

And another one goes down For all our batting issues, our catching is playing us out of games. So so poor
India could be 8 or 9 down here taking catches and simple run outs

How many shots has Alistair Cook got? Scored for fun off short balls either side of the wicket, anything on his legs went to the boundary, and anything overpitched was dispatched too. Not sure Sibley can do any of that consistently except turn the ball off his hip for one, and even that’s got him out a few times.

A more than handy first innings lead for India. It should be close to parity if we could catch a bus or throw with any sort of accuracy. Very frustrating indeed, just mirroring so many test matches over the last 2 or 3 years so far

So so poor India could be 8 or 9 down here taking catches and simple run outs Root also needs some lessons in not wasting reviews which are obviously nowhere near out. Appalling decision making on his and bowlers part which has been going on for year.
