Thought we could do with lightening the mood. Since the move to the new ground we have had many highs and lows, so let's see everyone's teams on either end of the spectrum.
The rules are simple: create two Salop XIs, one which is the best team of the New Meadow era, one of which is the worst. Any formation and any manager too.*
Could be interesting to bring up some old names of days gone by and see some old rants or praises.
*Must be about what they have done in a salop shirt, not for other clubs otherwise you could make a case for players like Andre Gray.

Cracking thread this could be. I'm going to have a good think and come back on tomorrow.

Cracking thread this could be. I'm going to have a good think and come back on tomorrow. How will people choose between Nolan, Woods and Godfrey? How many people will have Jake Simpson in their squad? Will anyone pass up on Holt upfront? Will Winfield be alongside Waterfall? So many interesting ideas this could bring up. I'm going to have a think tonight too before settling on my ideas.

Is it based on how they did purely for us or their career as a whole? I think that's a crucial point.

Purely based on a salop shirt otherwise we could end up with some weird guys in the squad like Andre Gray. They've had to perform for this club to an exceptional standard at either end of the spectrum

I'm pretty sure that we must be approaching one of the worst starts to a season that the clubs ever had (perhaps soon to be the worst) and yet not one of the current lot would make the Worst XI, not by a million miles.

In goal, I’d say Dean Henderson was the best... with an honourable mention for Luke Daniels. Great keeper, arguably his form faltered after the Port Vale incident. He’s had a good career so perhaps didn’t hold him back so much.
Worst (sadly) was Glyn Garner. Real coup signing from GP, sadly it didn’t work out, seemed to just watch the confidence seep away. Didn’t itbtranspire he had some kind of vision problem? Real shame it didn’t work out as he was a brilliant keeper.
Grant Holt was one of the best ever.
We’ve had some ‘hidden gems’ in the past who never remotely matched the hype. Jay Denny was supposed to be a massive coup but never came to anything here, perhaps the ultimate was Omar Riza. To listen to some people you’d think we’d signed some kind of Lionel Messi who incredibly slipped through the net at Arsenal.
Guy Madjo and his weird (plus creepy) altercations with the law.

I don’t know about lightening the mood, it’s depressing to think how many bad players we’ve had in a relatively short time.

I don’t know about lightening the mood, it’s depressing to think how many bad players we’ve had in a relatively short time. I think that’s part and parcel of supporting a League 1/2 side... it’s incredibly transient. Very few are good enough to stick around, the really good ones get cherry-picked, whilst there’s no end of rough diamonds, future stars and hidden gems who very quickly pass by. I think sometimes you’ll get lucky and find a player who has realistically found their level, decent but not world-beating, that will stick around. Thinking of your Shaun Whalley, Kelvin Langmead, Shane Cansdell-Sheriff types.

I remember his goal at Southend - any striker would have been proud of that.

There’s loads of players like Doble, Marsden etc who’ve come here, barely played and done **** all, but to get into a team like this I think players have to have made a genuine impression with their awfulness.

I'm going positive, some players who come to mind:
Ryan Woods, Junior Brown, Joe Jacobson, James Collins, Connor Goldson, Jon Taylor, Ben Davies, Luke Daniels, Lionel Ainsworth, David Button, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, David Davis, Greg Docherty, Sullay Kaikai, Adam Reach, Tyler Roberts, Marc Tierney, Ben Godfrey, Dean Henderson, Jon Nolan, Toto Nisilia, Grant Holt.
Certainly a mix of our own as well as loanees and a squad of 22!

I’ll have a go at nominating an XI, not necessarily the best but players I enjoyed watching, 4-4-2 formation.
Henderson, Herd, Grandison, Golson, Tierney, M Wright, B Davies, Woods, Pugh, Bradshaw, Holt.
Manager Peters.

In goal, I’d say Dean Henderson was the best... with an honourable mention for Luke Daniels. scott shearer would be in front of luke for me, steady as a rock, just our luck the only side in the world he couldnt play against at wembley was bristol rovers

I thought he left at the end of the 2006/7 season and Garner signed as a replacement, but happy to be corrected.

Henderson Bolton, Sharps, Cansdell-Sheriff, Sadler Godfrey Ainsworth, Docherty, Dunfield, Wright Morris
Difficult to name a terrible eleven. Kennedy and Loft signed by Askey played one game for us then dropped into the National League but they didn’t necessarily leave a lasting impression of being particularly bad.
Amadi-Holloway leaves a lasting impression of being a bad player. Coleman was a terrible keeper.
