I haven't checked the statistics but I'm pretty sure that our defensive record was reasonably good up to the point when Golbourne was injured, the main problem up to that point being our own lack of goals. Now we have moments of complete disarray in every game where communication seems to be non-existent.
Is this a coincidence, or was Golbourne the intelligence and experience in defence (in a similar way to how Sadler influenced things) which is now completely absent at key moments, especially injury time?
Charlie Daniels certainly has experience and offers a lot going forward, but I have not been impressed with him defensively.

i've critisized him since the day he arrived, has been at fault for several goals, i was foolish to suggest vela might have been better, but people were to busy shouting WOW to listen great for corners, if only we had a system like the NFL where we bring a kicker on to take kicks ;-)

Daniels had his worst game for us yet yesterday when even his delivery was poor. Obviously he is not going to get back quickly on the counter but has offered more going forward than Goldbourne who is very steady at the back. The problem has been made worse by the back three who should be able to deal with counter- attacks but have been error prone and leaden- footed at times though I think Williams has been better than the other two so far this season.

I’ve been disappointed by how poor Daniels is as a defender, how did he get away with it in the Premiership?

When a team has 1 win in 12 games you can find faults in every players performances.
But in a defence containing Burgoyne, Williams, Pierre and Ebanks-Landell I wouldn’t be singling out Daniels at all.

When he first arrived here I wasn't that impressed with him but he became one of our best players last season in my opinion. Technically very good and intelligent. Was definitely worried for our defence when he got injured, I agree - I think we're missing him.

someone remind me how long hes out for ? Ricketts said last week that he didn’t expect anyone else to be back (from the long term injured list) for about four weeks. Having had a rib injury that sounds about right.

Could say the same about Omar Beckles - had a mistake in him now and again, but added something and scored sometimes too.

I’ve broke ribs twice playing sport, whilst it’s not a ‘serious’ injury as such (provided it is clean and doesn’t puncture the lung), it’s incredibly niggling. Especially if the ligaments between the ribs are damaged... if anything I’ve found that worse than the bone breakage., Last time, whilst I could go about daily activities soon after, including heavy lifting and carrying, impact sport was very difficult. Breathing was impaired and sudden movement / twisting was very painful. Went on for months. Really feel for the guy as this will impair his training for weeks. Certainly will be on the painkillers!

I've only ever bruised ribs, not broken them but it was weeks before the pain died down to even being comfortable. I wouldnt have wanted to take an elbow in the rough and tumble of a football match for weeks. The only positive is that he will be getting physio to help speed things up a little but it's basically only time that will heal it.

I could perform steady running and low impact gym work, but certainly jumping, sudden stopping / starting / change of direction that was difficult. You’re right, luckily he’s in the situation of having professional physio staff looking after him, but ultimately all he can do is give it time. Hugely frustrating injury.
