Please could anyone who has programmes for seasons 93-4 and 94-95 help me out with the players and their corresponding squad nos. for those seasons?
Maybe we just used the squad numbering in 93-4, and not in 94-5?
Many thanks to any sleuths, in advance.
Cheers

I think I remember Dave Walton despite being a centre back liked to wear number 10?
Iโve got some old programmes at the back of a cupboard somewhere I can dig out unless someone else has some easier to hand

Think from memory it was the easy to understand 1-11 with 2 subs.
Much better than damn squad numbers.

Thanks to a good mate I've now got squad nos for 93-4 and I'll type them up and post them in the morning, if anyones interested!
But did we then abandon squad nos the next season? Seems likely we did!? All a bit odd.
Hey ho, first world issue, but keep very safe folks!
Cheers

I remember a youtube video from Carlisle v Salop video from 1994. Wasn't very good quality. You might get some numbers from that. We were in red.
Yep, still there. about 5 minutes long.

Iโve got some old programmes at the back of a cupboard somewhere I can dig out unless someone else has some easier to hand Carl Griffiths had just left, so he the only available number between 1 and 11. These days they donโt bother about having numbers in the teens or 20โs

Right, think I've got to the bottom of this.
Season 93-4 we used squad numbers as follows:
13. Tim Clarke 1. Paul Edwards 6. Mark Blake 2. Dave Hockaday 3. Tommy Lynch 22. Kevin Seabury 9. Dean Spink 10. David Walton 5. Mark Williams 16. Paul Evans No number - Steve MacKenzie 12. Gary Patterson 21. Kevin Summerfield 4. Mark Taylor 18. Chris White 7. Mickey Brown 8. Wayne Clarke 17. O'Neill Donaldson 15. Joe Gallen 14. Mark Smith 11. Ray Woods 19. John Brough 20. Mark Rutherford 23. Jason Yates
But season 94-5 we had 14 numbered shirts which were worn by players, not quite at random, but not quite in a fixed way either. So Dave Walton wore shirt No. 10 in the first match, but shirt No 6 in the 2nd match .. back to shirt 10 for the his next 13 outings, then No. 4. Then back to No 10!
This results in a rather complex table in the programme!
So why we had squad nos and fixed player shirts, then changed that to the more random system, who knows? Perhaps it saved on shirt costs?
Thanks to my mate who provided the info!

Understandable really.
Didn't Walton take over the number 10 shirt that had been left empty following Carl Griffiths move to Man City?

Ahh... well the outcome I think was that there were no shirts to take over... because after 93-94 there was no such system! Trialled for a year then ditched!
Apparently there were about ten clubs in the Football League that used squad numbers in 93/94 but only Sunderland kept them for another season. After that all clubs returned to 1-11 until the 99/00 season.

Yes I thought the same about John Brough. And Joe Gallen (why did we always used to get the crap relations of the famous players). ๐

I think the Clarkes were the exception rather than the rule and in most cases you are right, we did get the duffers.

Wayne was one of our best ever strikers. My comments about getting the crap ones was in relation to Joe Gallen, think his brother was much better than him.
