A news report this morning that McLaren Racing had developed an effective new design of ventilator in a very short time is a reminder that many organisations are using their brain power and ingenuity to help in the current crisis. A possible reason for optimism.
My son works for Cancer Research UK and all their lab technicians have transferred to Covid 19 labs, their medically trained staff have moved to assist in the NHS front line and all their computer power is being used to crunch data on Covid 19 research.
I know that it will take time to develop a vaccine, but the huge effort being made to improve understanding of how the virus spreads and the best way of reducing infection and innovations in treatment will help stem the tide until vaccines are available.

A great British industry is F1. Some think it's a waste of time (and petrol), but look at the brains we have available in the industry when we need them.
Hopefully Coronavirus treatment will be reduced to a quick pitstop.

It is Mercedes, reversed engineered an out of patent device and produced prototypes in less than a week. Being tested at UCL in London and Mercedes can start producing 1000 a day from next week. Device can be used on patients that need help with breathing but who dont need a full blown critical care ventilator thus free those up for more serious cases.

www.shropshirestar.com/news/uk-news/2020/03/30/california-based-scottish-scientist-hails-uk-efforts-to-tackle-coronavirus/"A Scottish scientist leading attempts to develop a vaccine to combat coronavirus has challenged other countries to follow the UK’s lead and fund their efforts. Dr Kate Broderick heads up a team of experts at the pharmaceutical giant Inovio in San Diego, California, who are working around the clock to have a DNA vaccine ready by December. She revealed her efforts are being spurred on by her family – her husband is immunocompromised, while her sister is a nurse working in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow." "The UK has announced a further £210 million towards research – making it the biggest international contributor – with Prime Minister Boris Johnson saying “this record British funding will help to find a vaccine for the entire world”. Welcoming the cash, Dr Broderick said: “I am really proud that the UK Government has made this absolutely phenomenal gesture and I think that really says a lot about how seriously Boris Johnson is taking the pandemic." i have have been very critical of the goverments efforts so far but these does need to be recognised and is very welcome news.

Boris is a human being, he has flaws, but, having had it himself, he knows the situation and he's doing his best. Better off now that he seems to be disregarding a few "advisers", and, with the majority he has he can afford to ignore them.

When they talked of it before it was going to be by invite from 111, so I would suggest that 111 is the place to call unless other info comes out. They won't want large numbers of people who think they have coronavirus just turning up.

It'll be run through the primary care system so you'll need a GP referral I think

It'll be run through the primary care system so you'll need a GP referral I think since a large number of nhs staff / social care staff are in self isolation you would hope it would start with them .

My work is supplying parts to Mercedes for the new device. Not crucial parts in its construction, but necessary parts all the same.
Doesn't look like I'm going to get furloughed off work for the foreseeable future.
Bugger.

But still well done you. We will all appreciate your work I’m sure. Just take as much care of yourself as you can.
