Sam has spoken over the last week about the 18 month project at the club (shared by him, RW and BC) - I take it from that his describing us as being 6 months into it means L1 consolidation/play offs is the aim for this season, with promotion to the Championship being our Holy Grail?
One thing I think we can take from the Bristol & Liverpool games are that we actually do have a group of talented players who could actually deliver us Championship football...we just need to score more goals!
Thoughts?

I love the idea of the project and let's hope it runs its course with some decent improvement at the end. Of course this would go a bit pear shaped if the results dry up, project or not, as that's what it all amounts to in the end. As far as the current squad being championship ready, you are way off the mark I'm afraid. SR is building a squad to hopefully push for better things but that is purely at this level. The next level is a huge gap and would need some serious investment just to survive.

Thoughts? I thought about this after the match . I was just going through our team , who played well and so on when it came to me that we have got a very good group of players assembled by SR . Our keepers ( both ) are decent , both full backs if you like are good , central defensive players very good . Our midfield players are , on their day , as good as any and we have Cummings etc who can score . We need to be a bit more adventurous going forward , take s few more risks but bloody hell we are a match for any team in League 1 . So yes , we are going in the right direction and doing so bit by bit . Hopefully we can begin to climb up the table but do far I see no reason not to be pleased with how things are progressing.

In my opinion this season is kind of already finished. We have a great solid foundation but lack that playmaking number 10 to get those extra points on the board.
Next season I think might be genuinely special, more so given the defenders are under contract as well as our forwards on the whole.
If Lang signs permanently in January that would be fantastic for the club and would set us up in an excellent position over the summer, especially now with the cup money rolling in.

Ricketts was talking after the match of using some of the money from this cup run for the infastructure. i am all for a plan however we also know that at our level keeping a squad of players to build from is very difficult because the better ones get offers of better wages / bigger club from the big spenders or clubs at a higher level and NO i am not advocating going on a spending spree we have seen what boom and bust spending can do and we have witnessed what prudence has done for our club.

I was well impressed with SR in that interview after the game. He really told the world at large what a good solid club we are and how we don’t just splurge money left right and centre but keep looking to future investment. I was really proud of him.

Burgoyne and Ramsey in today, McAleny in yesterday...could be the next stage in the 18 month project?
Fey out to Doncaster and maybe Beckles on loan to Bolton? IF we can get Docherty back in from Rangers, along with a target man type striker, we could be on the way up!

I think there’s a strong chance that Burgoyne will be a permanent signing at the end of the season...both Ricketts and Edwards will know him from their Wolves days? Ramsey looks a real prospect and could be a decent acquisition for us - highly thought of at Southampton apparently. McAleny could a loan with a view to signing permanently as well, but would he fit into the system that SR prefers?

Ramsay is under contract at Southampton until 2021 and they rate him highly, very little chance this will be anything other than a loan until the summer.
