Best news is www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-48596575A bit of competition has got to be good, though not directly affecting Shrewsbury/Stafford area. Also note the pendellino trains transfer to the new operator so a coat of paint fpr them. Slipper go faster paint if they are intending to cut journey times?

I would have thought that an extra operator is the last thing anyone needs, there is too much confusion already about the “wrong ticket” or the “wrong train”. It is absolutely bonkers that such a small island has such a fragmented and incoherent rail system, unified only by the travelling passenger. Having said that, I am dismayed to see Virgin go, it is by far the best of the volume operators and has transformed the West Coast Main Line.

Transformed as long as you travel off peak or book well in advance. They don't half charge for on the day early transport.

On BBC local news page:
Rail passengers in the West Midlands can expect new carriages, better waiting rooms and a direct service from Walsall to London Euston, when the West Coast rail franchise changes hands at the end of the year. First Group and Italian state operator Trenitalia will run the franchise between 2019 and 2031. A report due to go before the West Midlands Combined Authority has set out the expected changes.
Other improvements promised by the new operators include:
Refurbished first class lounges at Birmingham New Street Free station wi-fi at six more stations New ticket vending machines More direct services to London from Shrewsbury More car parking at Birmingham International

i am a dinasour and i am not saything things were perfect when it was national rail, but i preffered things when things were owned by the state, we were promised lower prices ,better service , more trains. i use the trains a lot and i think they are worse now.
