There were 26,600 at the Stadium of Light for the first leg with Portsmouth. That’s 20,000 less than their season highest. 14,500 less than the league meeting between the two a few weeks before. 6,000 less than their average attendance for the season. Weird. And a below season average gate at Fratton Park last night too. Despite 2,000 Sunderland fans making the trip the gate was still lower than any of Pompey's last 4 home games, which included Rochdale and Accrington. I get the season ticket thing, but the implication is that in Sunderland's case for example there were potentially 4-5,000 season ticket holders or at least regulars, who chose not to go to the play-off semi final. I just find that odd. I can understand it. Unlike the league games, both the play off games were live on TV. I didn't see the first game and only the last part of the second. Glad about that - what I saw was dismal, really poor quality stuff; a bad impression given of League 1 football. I hope tonight's game and the final are much better.

Don't want Sunderland to go up - my lad is at Uni there and it would be an easy away trip for him!! (It was Xmas game last season and he wasn't 'fit' enough to travel!!)

Would prefer Charlton to stay down. Easy for lots of Town expats to get to which swells our support. And a really nice stadium. But perhaps I am swayed by the two fabulous games there in 2018 - particularly the February game where our support was relentless. And who can forget Jon Nolan's winner in the play off semi final? Even though we lost there in August, it was still a good game that we should have seen out for a draw. I would be very happy to go back there next season. I hope Doncaster do it tonight and then beat Sunderland but my head says that Charlton will win tonight and then go on to win the final.

The equivalent would have been something like only 4,500 Town fans turning up for the game against Charlton at MWM last year.
