On face value, this would be bizarre, can't get in a league 2 side, on loan to a non league side, possibly can't play for us, is out of contract in the summer and the small matter of we have an abundance of midfielders. I'm not taking the Star's article seriously as that's clearly them re-hashing a tweet as an article of their own. However Mr O'Rourke is normally fairly reliable Indeed...... Or then on face value it could be A talented player who's lost his way at a club that's managed by a moose; who has done well at a club under our current manager who is obviously impressed with him; is available on loan for 6 months to a club paying his wages under a set up ricketts himself built; and as he's out of contract Crewe will be taking a snip for him than definitely lose him for free in the summer. Na **** that. Lets write off the lad before he's signed. **** off Ricketts. Fire the board. Burn down the meadow.
I'm not sure you know what the term 'on face value' means.

I suspect he's one for next season & will not play til then? Ricketts possibly not willing to wait to get his man.. Perhaps we can loan him back to Wrexham! He can still play for them. On the money!

Loaning him back doesn't get over being managed by a moose though? Perhaps, being close, some of his training and development during the week will be with us?

There has been mention of Walker being a free agent in the summer, from myself included, but I think he'll still be under 24 in the summer so a fee, or compensation, would still be required then.

Crewe boss is saying in local press that Walker is free to talk to other teams and talks are ongoing. No mention of who although local press naming Shrewsbury and saying we are expected to loan him back to Wrexham. Don't know if they got that off here though.

As far as I can remember this is the first time we've bought a player and then immediately loaned him out.
Walker must have something about him that has impressed Ricketts that's for sure.

Perhaps we'll now sign a forward or two who are going to play for us and not someone else 😂

If I’m honest this sounds like a strange signing, surplus to requirements at Crewe who have been struggling in League 2 for a few seasons now... mind you Toto was in a poor Hartlepool side and Rodman was in a struggling Notts County team so what do we know!

It must be to save on the laundry bill. His shirt hasn't had time to get dirty.

I wonder who will be paying most of his wages, us or Wrexham?

18 month contract for nearly 6 months of which he will be on loan. Am I missing something here - it does not make any sense.

Look, it's very straightforward, Walker goes back on loan to Wrexham for 6 months, then we find him a season long loan for the year after, saving on the wage bill.

Well we have 20 odd days to find at least 1 forward otherwise these 80 odd midfielders we have on the books will all be playing Div 2 football next season...

Eh? It's not that difficult, surely?
Walker signs for 18 months with an option to extend it to 30 months. He can't play for us this season so goes back to Wrexham for now. Then he's here next season and perhaps the one after.
Reminder - Colkett has gone & Docherty will also have gone by the time Walker starts. Morris and Jones seem to be going, Loft will likely be gone, Grant may or may not be here next season, Edwards may or may not be playing every game and this jury at least is still not entirely convinced that Norburn and Laurent will be consistently top rank League 1 players. Doesn't feel like a surplus of midfielders to me.

Ok Morris etc will be going, but I'm on about next season. This season for the last 20 games we have a choice of Angol (who isn't interested) and the Oldham kid who ain't great and every three games brakes down. I'm basing this on I can see Ricketts playing either 451 or 433. So there will be a loan forward to a degree. Can't see him playing 442 to many games ?

what on earth is going on we sign a player who was not good enough for a second division team, he stays at wrexham for 6 months which at any time he could get injured. so we sign two players both midfielder one who is injury prone and one who we wont see in a town shirt this season am i missing something. meanwhile what we really need are two forwards and a keeper

Sam Ricketts is only going out and signing players he believes will make Shrewsbury Town a better football club short and long term. He's only gone and signed a midfielder returning home after a career playing Premier league and International football. But jesus h christ. He might he 'injury prone'. This will not stand.

This will not stand. i feel i have made reasonable points about his two signings ,from 2017 till he left he played less than half the league games not counting pre season or cup run. the injury prone is from the reading fans forum.whilst he seemed well like "failed to make an impact" getting rid of dead wood are just some of the comments " i am entitled to my opinion you dont agree with it that is fine with me.
