If we are playing three up front, big target man and two wide players, then those wide players need to be incisive and attacking. We have Whalley and Gillead who look certain starters, with Okenabirhie banging on the door after a great pre season and some good substitute appearances. That means Eisa is 4th choice. But those are the positions, Rodman and Whalley last season, where they ran themselves into the ground over the course of a season and regularly needed to be substituted. If Whalley or Gilead is injured or suspended then where is our cover? Stef Payne has gone - is he just going to play the big lads altogether up front? It seems like a really important position to go short of cover on. From what I have seen the other option, Gnahoua, is nowhere near Eisa in terms of form or potential. I'm not yet convinced by Gilliead. Against Burton he showed great pace and skill but his lack of end product meant he wasn't really much of a threat at all. He might just need more time but I'd like to see Okenabirhie get a start soon and it doesn't look as though he'll be at his most effective playing with his back to goal. He and Whalley plus a striker could make for an exciting 4-3-3 though. I agree that I'd rather see Gnahoua playing on loan and Eisa coming on from our bench.

Jesus, how many of us can see this ......together with the Sadler issue..... its as plain as night and day. FFS Askey can you not see any further than your nose. Askey needs to try what we are saying here. If it goes belly up after two games we will all put our hands up. At least he will know it won’t work.....or will work. We cannot all be wrong here. Oh yes we can and Askey doesn't need to be trying what messageboard opinion tells him if he's got an idea of his own. But calm down, fella, it hasn't happened.

Trust me I’m calm in all of this, but someone on another thread on more amid less the same subject have said that he’s out of his depth. I haven't said that in anything I have said so far, so calmness is the temperament I feel. It’s in the back of my mind though.

Trust me I’m calm in all of this but on another thread, someone suggested that Askey is out of his depth period. Now I have not said anything of this nature whist talking about a similar related issue. However, it’s in the back of my mind.

By my reckoning we’ve currently got 13 players kicking their heels on a Saturday afternoon. A couple have already taken their boots elsewhere.
Cameron Gregory, Zac Jules, Ryan Sears, Christos Shelis, Luke Hendrie,Ryan Barnett, George Hughes, Bryn Morris, Sam Jones, Abo Eisa, Doug Loft, John McAtee and Arthur Gnahoua.
A pretty decent reserve team that, shame we don’t have one.
John Askey does also have the option of bringing in 2 more loanees which will push some of the above even further down the pecking order.
I know I’m being soft headed and naïve, (ultimately they may just not be good enough) but it’s still disappointing to see half a dozen of our own home grown talent in the list above. I really do wish that at least one or two will kick on and become first team regulars, if not this season then next.

Just to stir the pot. Someone on the Macclesfield Board suggests JA's likely to be out of his depth!
"Stefan Payne is leaving them too along with Nolan and Nsiala. Can see JA struggling this season- lost all their best players and replaced them with Conference/L2 players.
I had a feeling he'd struggle with recruitment at that level, I just didn't see him having a good enough number of contacts in the game that high up".

That thought crossed my mind when he arrived but Gilliead, Colkett, Docherty, Laurent & Coleman have come from higher up and Hurst did well enough signing a lot of lower league, often Grimsby-connected players!

In my opinion Abo Elsa is better than most of the bench. So why has he been left out??

I have no problem with players going out on loan to get games.
The problem, as I understand it, is there is no recall option under the current loan system. If Eisa, or another player, could be recalled after a month then this would be a sensible policy.

Pretty clear from tonight's Radio Shropshire interview with JA that he's anticipating sending out Eisa on loan.

In his post match interview John Askey spoke of having a biggish squad that needs to be trimmed down a bit before he can add anything to it. He also confirmed that Gnahoua is another, like Eisa, who he thinks needs to go out and get games in order that they can improve.

Eisa is just the sort of player that if he'd been on the bench today could have been brought on for the last 20 mins when we were needing something different.

If Eisa, or another player, could be recalled after a month then this would be a sensible policy. Unless loaned to a non league outfit? There was talk of a loanback when he came here, should have happened so that he could have continued to develop. We weren't going to use him back end of last season.

Eisa is just the sort of player that if he'd been on the bench today could have been brought on for the last 20 mins when we were needing something different. I would agree if we had been chasing the game, but it was 0-0. Going for it, all guns blazing may have seen us get a well deserved win, but conversely we could have got mugged on the break. JA said that we defended well as a team, but players like Abo and Arthur are , putting it kindly, defensively naive. Our previous manager, whose name escapes me, used to say “”if you can’t win, make sure you don’t get beat”. We should have heeded that advise at Charlton.

I thought Eisa would make a bit of an impact this season , looked good in the few games I saw him play last season .There again it was only a " few games ". Just how many games did he get under Hurst ? Anyway , the young lad may well look good going forward ,running at pace at defenders but what happens when he loses the ball, is he as keen to get it back. Is he aware of where he should be at certain times in the game . What we don't see is the young lad in training so I can only conclude that he isn't up to the required level yet. Or at least there are others who perform better within the squad. He is going out on loan which is good as he may come back to us a better player . I hope he does . We can only trust what JA sees in the lad together with his management team . From what I have seen so far it looks as if Askey wants his team to play higher up the field wth a big lad up front to hold the ball up whilst our midfield join in , two wide players provding width stretching the opponents back line. It worked well on a few occasions yesterday even with Whalley coming inside playing with Gilliead . Perhaps JA doesn't see Eisa fitting into that set up. Let's wait and see anyway , early days and we aren't that far off .

He’s yet to make a real impact and didn’t even make the bench in the play off final. Not sure that he should be ahead of anyone in midfield or on the flanks currently. I would also prefer Okenabirhie to him. So a loan until January would seem a reasonable possibility. Whilst encouraging him to understand that he is still part of the club’s plans.
One other player we haven’t mentioned is Gnahoua. A short term loan for him may be useful.
