You forgot Jones. Easily done I agree. Throw in Lowe and the January dealings didn't produce 1 player who became a regular starter. And the failure to sign another striker cost us dearly, leaving us with just Morris, Payne and a bench warmer brought on 34 times in the last few minutes, but deemed not good enough to start even once. Contrast that with Armstrong at Blackburn, and Vaughan and Cole at Wigan. Sorry, I must have forgot we have the finances to offer the same wages as ex premier league teams, with parachute payments... I'm certainly not saying that we had the money to pay the wages of any of those three. But it might have been a good idea to at least sign someone to provide competition for Morris and Payne, even if only from the bench. LJL was a depressing alternative.

Transfer window doesn’t even open till 1st July, bloody morons anyone whinging Transfer window opened on 17th May and closes on 9th August. Clubs can sell players up until 31st August, however, they can NOT bring in replacements after the 9th August deadline. Therefore, we are already 3 weeks into the window, and have lost the majority of that due to play offs, holidays and managerial changes!! Clubs can seek players up to 31st August but clubs can’t bring in replacements after 9th August??? How does that work then if clubs can sell but can’t buy? Genuine question, not a dig. Just don’t quite understand how that would work.

This was the quote from the Shropshire star for Askey regarding out of contract and signed players. Askey has been in touch with out-of-contract players regarding their futures. When asked if he’d talked with the players he had inherited at Shrewsbury, the boss replied: “No. I don’t think there’s any need. If they’ve signed then they’ve signed.” Personally I would have spoken to everyone of the players after becoming manager signed or not. Preferably chat face to face but certainly by telephone just to introduce myself and say I looked forward to working with them and find out if they had any concerns or questions, it is just good man management. I suspect he has a lot on his plate but first job is always protect your assets and then build on them I'd rather JA focus his time on trying to add to the squad rather than making 20+ phone calls introducing himself to all the players! He's spoke to a couple of senior players (Sadler being one of them) and as he says, he will soon be meeting them all for pre season training anyway. Could he have made calls to the like of JB, Ogogo, Rodman etc begging them to stay? Maybe, maybe not but once a player decides the grass is greener elsewhere it's impossible to make them stay. JA has a thankless task but you would think his first set of signings should arrive soon and then we can start to assess the squad a little better. Fair comment

Just don’t quite understand how that would work. Clubs can SELL players up until 31st August, but not buy after 9th August. This applies to all Premier League and EFL clubs. Other European leagues transfer windows are open until 31st August- so theoretically we could sell abroad, or to Non League clubs or clubs in other Leagues in Britain too.

He's only been here a week and he's had to look what he needs with out actually seeing what he's got already then go through agents of players who are on holiday and make them an offer, and that's all as well as trying to get answers we have already got. Give the guy a chance! Totally agree with you. For goodness sake get off his back and let him sort out a squad and do things 'HIS 'way. If we finish halfway ish ( especially after losing a few of our best players ...... and I don't expect Nolan, Toto or Ogogo to be with us much longer !!! ) after that fantastic season we've just had I will deem John Askey to have had a fairly good season.
As for Paul Hurst....... lets just thank the bloke for giving us a wonderful roller coaster ride, and move on. OK so maybe he could have left in a better manner ( don't forget he is a Yorkshireman, and some of them - as a matter of fact A LOT OF THEM - don't realize they upset others by their actions. It was better that he left straight away, irrespective of how he left, thus giving the new manager more time to get organized. Would it have made any difference if he had stayed another week and told us what a great time he had here and how wonderful all the fans are ?? I think he told us that throughout the season a few times anyway.
As for the players leaving......... Anyone in their right mind would move on to a 'bigger' club if offered a more realistic chance of silverware and a MUCH HIGHER salary than the Shrews can afford to pay. They too have families to consider when making decisions, no matter how much they have loved playing for our club.
So come on all you Shrews, look to the future, and lock in your memories of the most fantastic season we have just witnessed. No-one gets anywhere holding grudges. I am almost 76, so I doubt I will see another like it. But I will live in hope.
# Can't wait for next season's fixture list to come out & start planning away trips. "COME ON YOU SHREWS"
