with two key league games to follow in quick succession and fatigue certainly showing on new years day do the risks outweigh the upside.
we already have the television revenue and money from the match locked down regardless of outcome.

what a fantastic idea lets embarrass ourselves in front of a live audience, last thing we need is a money spinning replay or another massive 4th round tie with more tv money

NO. The checkerade game is the one to rest players in. Not this one.

Let's not go there please as I have no desire to re-open the Swan Constabulary file on this case. It's suffice to say that Pilch and Pughywasfree let themselves down slightly, punches and taunts were thrown by both sides and the matter is now closed. End.

Rest the players? That would be a great way to kill the team morale.

In my opinion i think that we should not play a weakened team against west ham. The checkatrade trophy is a game where we should be giving some of the youth players a game.

What a stupid post. After West Ham we have six days until our next league game and then (replay aside) another week until our next league fixture after that. I will, however, be very annoyed if we play hardly any of the players that start against West Ham, in the stupid Checkatrade. Although I think that perhaps the reason that Hurst started Gnahoua and Morris against Oldham, is so that we can start them on Tuesday and play a weaker team without breaking the competition rules (think it's four from previous league match and any player that's played over 50 times in the league, John Lewis etc).
As for West Ham, I think we've a reasonable chance of going through (bookmakers have us priced up at 11/4, which is similar to how we were priced up for Wigan at home!). If we go through and get Utd, Liverpool etc - it could (keeping in mind next round is before end of window) allow us to sign/buy 2 really quality players for the promotion charge - so the potential rewards are clearly there.
Oh and we're at home in the FA Cup against a premier league team FFS. Get behind em'.

Ok, can understand where the OP is coming from. To me this season (& this season only) the FA Cup is something that could get in the way of the main goal.
Putting it another way - if you can only win ONE of the games against West Ham or Blackburn which one would you chose. That's a no brainer surely?

The saddest thing about modern football for me has been the demise of the FA Cup. Most of my great memories have come in the cup and most of our best seasons in the league have been achieved in tandem with a good cup run. The day Salop start resting players for the cup is the day I stop going.

the fa should award a champions league spot for the winners of the fa cup/league cup. ( winners play off )
it would liven up both cup comps and only 3 places in the league would also heat things up there too

There's six days in between the matches, I don't see how they conflict. If we rested say Agogo, presumably you would want him rested on Tues as well, that would be nearly two weeks in between matches - probably works against him being match fit. Players could get injured admittedly - but that could happen in any game/training etc. Main thing is that none of the main players play in the week, even if it means playing 16year olds! Another danger with resting players is we might ONLY draw as opposed to winning - replay would be the worst scenario - need to get it done on Sat ( ;-) )

I'm not a fitness expert but I believe the amount of games tends to affect players towards the end of the season, when tiredness and motivation start to be affected and niggly injuries creep in. We will need to 'squad it out' at some stage but the FA Cup 3rd round isn't it.
I'm sure Roland will want a replay, I'm sure PH won't! So if it's 0-0 with 10 minutes left, I hope we go for it and what'll be will be.

What on earth are you dragging up the Forest incident for? Possibly to deflect the embarrassment of the original post I would presume.

Maybe you should do the same, Callum.

I said on another thread that I wouldn't be upset if PH played a weakened side. I do get the argument of continuity and keeping a winning team playing but the fear of losing a crucial member of the squad for the more important promotion push is a big risk.
Ideally we make some good money out of the cup quickly get knocked out and concentrate on the league.
I know i'm in a small minority thinking this way but it's just the way I view it.

We are a provincial lower-league outfit.
The chance to smash the Cockney wide boys live on The Box is the stuff of which dreams are made.
A victory tomorrow may lead to hundreds of younger fans in attendance being infected by the Shrewsbury Town bug.
There must be no "let's field a weakened team" or "the league is our bread and butter" e.
Come On You Blues.
