Or they're playing against league 2 defences. Nope, would definitely say strengths, we managed to get one of the countries most prolific scorers in Jamie Cureton into his biggest goal drought in his playing career...... STFC is a goalscorers graveyard.... sod me, even Holt could only manage 9 in the league from open play. Why do you only count his league goals? He scored 28 goals for us in all competitions including 9 penalties, a feat that reversed the downward spiral in his career and launched a course which culminated in him playing in the Premiership. Do you really think he would describe STFC as a graveyard

Did we go to four at the back when Grimmer went off, or did Smith play wing-back?

The stats would suggest MM has replaced a 1 in 4 striker (Collins) with a 1 in 2 (Mangan). Early days, but I wouldn't say we're missing Collins much. Fair enough if you are counting Mangan as Collins replacement. But not so fair if Vassell is regarded as the replacement. In fact, the man now filling the no.9 boots of Collins is J-LAA. There the comparisons are also interesting. Jean-Louis has more pace, a better touch and, imo, he's better in the air. However he's a worse finisher. Then we get on to other attributes like holding the ball up, passing, work rate, stamina and leadership. I suspect that we would rate the whole-hearted Collins better on a few of those. I like J-L, and I'd rather have him leading my League 1 line than Collins because, with his pace and unpredictability, he discomforts the defenders far more. A bit of confidence and I think we'll see him notching a few goals too. However late in the game yesterday, even though we had put in our best attacking display for a long time, you could hear a few of the usual Salop voices having a go at him. Some people just don't seem to be happy unless they have a striker to moan at.

Just seen the highlights on youTube. Cracking goals from NKP (not bad from a center-back) and Mangan... and good determination from Whalley for his. The front line up is beginning to look a force. JLAA hold the ball up well and Whalley running at players is causing problems. And his deft lay back to tee up Mangan for his turf-skimming pile-driver was perfect.
Yes Blackpool came back, but they are in good form of late, and to be fair to them, they scored two beauties themselves even if we didn't clear properly for the first. And although they came close to drawing level, JLAA was unlucky not to make it four, being thwarted by a very good save.
So taking into account the fact that Blackpool are no longer the joke side they were, at least not on the pitch, it was a very good three points for us.

I'm a big JLAA admirer and want him in every game, but I would prefer to see Collins on the bench and covering injuries than Vassell. Although that may not be fair to either of them, as we haven't yet seen much of Vassell, and Collins. I am sure, wants to be an automatic starter. Right now Mangan, JLAA and Whalley are blending well. I am particularly delighted that Mango has seamlessly returned to league football and looks impressive at a higher notch, especially as on the Burton Board, one poster disparagingly referred to him as "non-league Mangan".

As such, Vassell is a replacement for the bench-warmer Barnett. I haven't seen enough of him yet to pass judgement.

On a more jovial note, but does anyone else think that, in a certain light, Andy Mangan looks a bit like Ricky Gervaise?

4 goals for Whalley. Someone who has a knack of getting a goal or busy around the box from a forward position. Similar to mark Wright few years ago.

Second goal looks even more bizarre on the video than it did in real life - comedy of errors.
At half time I feared that it could be a repeat of Colchester but against us - well done for hanging on lads !

I just felt seeing the big following that if we could get an early goal the fans would drive them on further. Best start made by the Town to a game for a long time. But it got a bit nervy though!

Really enjoyed my weekend away in Blackpool. Stayed in Lytham, what with a romantic day yesterday and a Town win, well what more could you ask for lol.
First time I've been to Bloomfield Road since it was redeveloped. My last visit was back in 1989 when we won that time too.
Really impressed with Shaun Whalley, he's certainly given us an extra dimension in the last third and I thought the link up play between him, Mangan and JLAA was very good at times.

Hello people,
I went to see the game since I live in Lytham. I know that one way another salop have had a bad time of it on the pitch. I also know that the last few games before Blackpool the performances have been a lot more encouraging. Even so, I went to Blackpool thinking that we would get nothing from the game based on the Jekyl and Hyde performances of late. How I was so wrong ! The performance in the first have half was worthy of a team in the top 3 or 4 of the Division. We played the ball around, with precision and time and the movement was superb. Blackpool were chasing shadows. Salop mopped up all the second balls. We literally pulled them apart. Every attack we had, we looked as if we would score. At 3-0 up, Blackpool supporters were leaving the ground. The performance was a revelation.
I hasten to add, that Blackpool are not a bad side. They were always going to come back at salop but the defending was excellent and when they did get through Leutwiler was up to it.
Well done salop, so good was that performance, anything half as good or better will keep us in Division one.

I hope we didn't literally pull them apart, there will be severe FA punishments if so.

Morgan also had a decent strike rate in his 2 seasons (despite being a bit of pr@t). Matt Harold was not far off a goal every 3 games.....hardly records to be knocked.

Along with Mulhearn, Rowley must be one of the most miserable footballers I've ever met.

You obviously haven't met Willie Carr then. Luckily, he isn't a talkative sort, which is a real blessing. I was surprised he wasn't wearing a sandwich board with "the end is nigh" on it.
I always enjoy talking to Ken. Perhaps it's because he was a bit of a hero of mine. I had a few chats with the great man, Rowley. He could come across as quite abrupt. I was never quite sure if he wasn't a bit shy. I once sat by him for quite a length of time, and he told me a few things about his attitude to the game, once he'd opened up. He talked about other players, but never ran anyone down. Funnily enough, he never mentioned his own achievements once. If that had been me, I wouldn't have shut up about it.

Any road up, did any Juan take that doggie home up at Blackpool? You know, the Juan they said you had to walk past on the way in? I thanked them very much, but explained I already had a dog, but I'd ask around.
The checking of the bags at the turnstyles was very funny. Asking octogenarians is they had any cans, knives or knuckle dusters in their bags. A better question would had been, " any tartan knee blankets, sanatogen, surgical stockings or spare top sets?

Yes I'd agree he was abrupt, and miserable, if he was still alive he would be working in the ticket office!! That's how bad I found him. I always find Mulhearn has a downer on stfc and football in general, not a patch on the bloke that his place Bob Wardle, in personality and skill.
