Very interesting article from the sloppy star ! Town are not panickingHere is an extract: ""The 29-year-old former Cardiff and Huddersfield man said: " We shouldn’t panic because there are a lot of games to be played and a lot of points to be won. “If we get to the last four or five games and we were in it, bottoms would start twitching a bit. But there’s a lot of experience here to get through a difficult period.” Gerrard doesn’t see Town’s plight as a survival battle at this stage, adding: “No, not at this point. There’s 10 points separating the bottom eight – that’s not a lot.“There’s a long way to go and if we put the performances in as we can do, we’ll be on the right end of results.“ It’s just little things we need to eradicate and then hopefully we can start putting a run of clean sheets together and pushing up the league.” Now Town are in the drop zone, Gerrard insists Town must maintain a positive mindset. He said: “If you start looking behind you, ultimately that’s where you’re going to end up. "But if you start looking above you and how far you are away from 12th or 13th place, that’s where you want to be. Psychologically, it’s who you are and what determines you as a person and as a player.”" FAO resident B&A negative nancies...take note. COYB

Don't forget though he has no contract and so can keep playing until and if he moves on at the end of January. With this mindset I hope he stays.
Whitbread on the other hand played his last contracted game on Saturday so will not be available v Burton.

Terrible timing with that article. I guess there was an impasse and Town pulled plug. Bring on M'Voto... ?

After weeks of being slagged off on here for being fat & slow with people saying we shouldn't break the bank for him, I now look forward to B&A imploding and how this is a ridiculous decision.
And naturally he will sign for someone else, we will get regular updates as to how he is playing and in a months time it's a mistake by Mellon to let him go

I don't necessarily agree with Gerrards views either.
I support Mellon but think we are in an almighty scrap to stay up and don't think the talk of "we've got lots of experience and are good enough" is actually going to keep us up.
Sounds very much like the talk under Ratcliffe's relegation. Club should be getting a "every game matters" attitude and be fighting for each point

He was alright, but he wasn't worth big money. If we've decided not to offer him a hefty salary and spend the money elsewhere instead, then I think that's probably the right decision.

Typical star they do a generic "(insert name of player) says we can do this" story on the same day he leaves!

Lets hope we can get a decent replacement in. Agree was probably asking for a hefty salary and to be honest he's be okay at best.

So despite having 3 potential left backs, you want to play a right sided one there? And your choice is either someone who hasn't been seen for months or a relatively unproven youngster
And in terms of this grit in midfield, can I ask where? You have gone 3 attacking players plus Wellens, hardly a midfield filled with grit

Glad Gerrard has gone tbh, if he is expecting £6k as was rumoured I think he may have a shock at what is offered to him in this window!
Whitbread on the other hand was excellent against Cardiff and I am delighted he is staying.

Out of Whitbread or Gerrard, I'm glad it'd Whitbread that's staying. Stick Dom Smith in his natural position next to Whitbread and I reckon we'll see the young lad come on massively. Not sure it would be the same if we stuck Dom next to Gerrard.
It will be interesting to see where Gerrard goes and good luck to him.

Don't know where we go from here . NKP, Smith, Grandison, Whitbread, Tootle, Sadler , Brown.
NKP is doing alright but not the player he was because of his injury . Smith, future prospect but not quite up to the mark yet , has been caught out at full back. Grandison , you tell me . Whitbread , a good player at the end of his career in my view , played well at Cardiff but was dire last Saturday . Tootle , the forgotten man , hasn't featured for ages , can he suddenly come good . Sadler , enough said . Brown , playing at full back because of the terrible form of those above .
That's 7 of our squad who aren't exactly warming the cockles !
We have a decent defender in my view in Demetriou . Surely he cannot be any worse than the above . We need at least two decent defenders . I still support MM but he has a lot of explaining to do .
Gerrard's view is that we are not in too much trouble . I tend to disagree , we are in trouble but with a lot of matches to go we can get out of it . I don't expect us to get anything at Burton so a point would be a bonus but we have got to start winning at home .
Over to you Mickey , methinks you are about to show us what a decent Manager you really are .

Be interesting to see where he ends up... If anywhere, hopefully his agent has some options lined up. He can't play as free agent after the window closes.

For whatever reason, he didn't seem to be on the same wavelength as Whitbred. Look at the goals we've shipped. If no Juan is coming in, it's Grando for me.

Got to thank the bloke for his efforts for the club given the circumstances of his time here but anyone who witnessed our defensive display against Barnsley can be in no doubt this is the right decision for all involved
