Unbelievable.
MM a broken team that had just been relegated, rebuilt it and got us straight back up looking stronger than ever. Much better achievement.

Not bothered about Manager of the Year, now will MM be. I'm much more bothered by where the club finishes. Wycombe are welcome to MOTY, at least they won something.........

I think we were seen, rightly or wrongly, as a club with a bigger budget and we were expected to do well
Difficult really, the best achievement was definitely Burton, but they changed managers part way through. Even so I would probably have gone for JFH. Happy we have MM getting us ready for next season

I can see why he got it. Lots of injuries, but still only 22/24 players used, little budget and a team who came a whisker away from relegation to almost getting promoted. I guess Ronnie Moore and JFH had good shouts too but they weren't in the job for the whole season.

Just shows how stupid these awards are. For me, they are meaningless. He may have had a small squad and God knows he reminded us of that every time he lost, but the job MM did not only with new players but also with morale for the whole club and community should have counted for something. How many times was he up for Manager of the month compared to Ainsworth?
I'm not sure what the size of budget has to do with - it doesn't stop Premier league managers winning an award.
Still as someone has said, I doubt MM will be worried and at least we won promotion. Tell me apart from this what did Wigglesworth Wanderers win?!!!!!

Yet again an example of the luck that follows Wycombe around (122nd minute of play off final excepted).

Probably more a question of not what you know but who you know!!!! Has MM ever been asked by either Sky or indeed the Football League Show to be a pundit? I've seen a number of other League 2 Managers (Flitcroft being the latest one) but never Mellon. Have I missed him or has he been ignored?

Would have thought if he'd been on there would have been a thread on here about it so I suspect not.

Probably more a question of not what you know but who you know!!!! Well it was a vote from the L2 managers, so they obviously know him and thought he did ok

Hmmmm still not convinced but at the end of the day it doesn't really mean much. This time next year it will be someone different anyway.

Ainsworth's done a cracking job this season but surely Wycombe can't be the first side in history that have battled relegation one year and been a whisker away from promotion the next.
That said unless they were to give Rowett/Hasselbaink a joint award, it would be hard pushed to make a case for anyone more worthy.
The general perception is a side going down is instantly a favourite to go back up the following year so it's unsurprising that the way Mellon and Williams have practically rebuilt the football club after the debacle of the previous season has gone unnoticed outside of Shropshire. And also when you consider the calibre of player we brought in last summer, it's no surprise that the bookies had us as second, third favourites going in to the season.

All fair points LSF and Ainsworth is certainly a more deserving case than JFH, whose achievement was to inherit a winning team and keep it winning - very good, but surely only part of what a manager of the year should show.
Tough on Mellon to be overlooked after such a huge turnaround. Yes I accept we were one of the favourites to be promoted but were we that in May when we had a handful of players, or did that emerge after Mellon's signings began? Out of interest, where were Tranmere, Carlisle and Stevenage with the bookies immediately after relegation (and were we really 2nd or 3rd so soon)?

If I was Ainsworth I'd feel very patronised with receiving that award.
Ahhhh poor Gareth and his lucky bunch of wiggles achieved **** all so lets give him this p!ss pot award to make him feel better.
At least it might give him some comfort as he makes the long drives north again next season to Carlisle and Hartlepool.

I remember at one point we were second favourites behind Luton and possibly at another third favourites behind them and Bury. This was after we'd made a couple of promising signings and I don't recall seeing any odds before this. I've made this point myself before but going into last summer there's no way I would have envisaged us having the season we went on to have. I'd have quite happily settled for a playoff spot or even a top half finish after the debacle of the previous season, but it is amazing how expectations changed almost the minute James Collins and Liam Lawrence came into the side. It became apparent quite quickly that this side was special after the Leicester and Luton games, but as I said before I don't think we'd have turned too many heads outside of the local area. Which is a shame because as you say Mellon deserves recognition.

Who cares about recognition, I'm sure Mellon doesn't give a monkeys about it. He achieved the real goal of promotion and certainly didn't benefit from the incredible run of good luck that Ainsworth had all season .
Even with all that luck the Wiggles are still stuck in Division 2 next season so how does that deserve an award.

Ainsworth only had 2 pieces of bad luck all season.
1. Our good friend Deadman didn't send off the Burton goalkeeper when he clearly handled outside the area. Burton went on to win the game.
2. The 122 minute equaliser by Southend.
However, those were enough to consign Wycombe to another fun season in Division 2.
The sooner the likes of Wycombe, Dagenham and Redbridge, Crawley and Stevenage return to the Conference the better.

I think it should have gone to John Coleman. How he keeps Accrington in the football league on an average gate of less than 1500 is beyond me. Deserves more recognition.

The vote for this award is made in March. At the time the Wiggles were looking bolt ons for promotion and the shaggy haired self obsessed cheat was in the media daily whinging about how hard things were with 14 fit players. #karma

A lot of bitterness on here. Why can't football fans be pleased for a young English manager?
Well done to the bloke. Hopefully Mellon will be able to achieve the award next season with a promotion push.

You are taking the p!ss, right.
Hopefully Mellon won't win because it seems non achieving losers win it like Ainsworth.
I'd rather promotion than this wooden spoon.

Hopefully Mellon will be able to achieve the award next season with a promotion push. Because some fans live in a bubble where the quality of a manager is based on the number of times he's a pundit on TV. And the performance of a team is based on the number of times they appear on Sky.
