A majority of League One and League Two clubs are backing a proposal to allow Premier League B teams to participate in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Although not a formal proposal, minutes from an AFC Wimbledon Supporters' Trust meeting reveal the League Two club was the only one of 48 to oppose plans. The Football Association announced a plan to boost English football in May. The four-point blueprint included the creation of a new league within the pyramid for Premier League B teams. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31702424

They already field B teams in the League and FA Cups.

I can see the need to somehow improve the status of the competition. However including B teams from higher leagues is not the answer I don't think. As of now clubs like ours have the chance of a bit of glory and possibly play at Wembley, really can't see much point of a Wembley final of Chelsea B v Man City B can you?

...really can't see much point of a Wembley final of Chelsea B v Man City B can you? Nope. I do hope it happens though as I suspect it'll be the only way they'll see what a poor decision this is. This competition struggles as it is to draw interest I fail too see how watering it down further will help. Maybe they think the name alone will generate some interest and get people down to the ground but I'm not sure. I guess only time will tell.

Clubs gain some interest when you are a couple of games away from Wembley.
Would it be possible to have the last 8 teams left in the competition given a bye to the 3rd round of the FA cup the following year?
This would maybe generate enough interest in the earlier rounds and when we get to 8 teams remaining in the competition, everyone's interest is then shifted towards a game at Wembley.

Not totally convinced as it would presumably reduce the chances of league 1 and 2 clubs reaching Wembley.

Not really sure how playing a vaguely interested lower league team in front of a tiny crowd is going to help produce the players to make England more competitive internationally. Which is what this B team stuff's all about, isn't it?
