I have got a good deal on a car, but I have to sell mine first, so thought I would give them a go.
I have a BMW320d 2010, MSport convertible, I put the details on to the website and the valuation came back as £11580. which to be honest, I was happy with, if it was going to be a quick easy sale. so booked my appointment at Telford today.
I got there and that's when the fun began. The guy tried to convince me that I had selected the wrong car from the drop down menu, and they had revised the offer (Not picked up automatically as just got old number plate back from private plate)
He then went through all the documentation, and that was fine, he then went around the car, I had it valeted and it looks really nice, or so I thought, the appraiser came in, shaking his head and said, its not good mate, the paint work is in rag order, which slightly surprised me as she looked immense to me, he then proceed to tell me how the paint work had obviously (not sure who to) bubbled in the past and that you could easily see the lines where a respray had taken place, I looked, it was not obvious to me, I put my glasses on, still could not see, then he turned around and told me all the other faults (which were not picked up by BMW on there service only 3 weeks ago) I then asked him what the offer was...... £8200...... bugger me, I was driving round in a rusty bucket and was not even aware, I was to be grateful that he left a few minor issues of the appraisal as it would have come out even cheaper for them.....
Needles to say, I had a giggle and went and sold it elsewhere for £11.5k

They are supposedly very reliable at 'adjusting' the price downwards very quickly at the first meeting knowing very well that most will accept the offer as they want to sell.
Perhaps we should all phone up and waste their time as a hobby.

Think its well known in the car world not to touch them with a very long barge pole if you want to get a car sold, especially if you have any car that's not a complete wreak
One if those watchdog shows did a story on them and showed in some cases they were offering as much as 50% of the true value. Even when you do sell the cash can be a long time coming through
Much better to go through an established dealer, or even sell privately to get both a better deal
Bizarrely there seems to be a similar company offering the same type of offer for houses. Presumably they come round your house, chuck a brick through your windows then knock 5 grand off the house price

These types of car buying service, use a fixed percentage of CAP as a hook to get you to come down to their premises! They will then professionally de-value your vehicle to buy it from you as cheaply as possible!
They will then put the vehicles through physical car auction to maximise the profits!
A very good business model!
For a large section of 2014 companies similar to these made more profit (buying cars) than the car supermarkets (selling cars) who own them!
That is why in 2013 webuyanycar.com was bought by BCA!

A couple of years ago I was selling a car that had some paintwork damage on the nearside wing, so I got Chips Away to repair it.
It looked a really good job to me, but the dealer I the car to spotted it immediately and told me I'd wasted my money as they'd have to sort it anyway.
I was impressed as, even when he showed me what was wrong with the job, I couldn't spot it.

I have recently used the webuyanycar site to get an idea of the base value of my Picasso, quoted me £620, which shocked me to be honest. A couple of days late got £1,600 against a newer car without haggling at a local garage here in Whitchurch. My choice I suppose but was useful as a guide but I think on reflection I accepted the garage valuation too quickly because of my earlier experience.

I thought that was just me - I was moving abroad, checked their valuation on line which looked in line with what I could see in Glass' guide and so thought why not save the hassle of selling and made an appointment for just before leaving the country to offload the car.
When I arrived they came out with so much rubbish as to why the price should be lower it was unbelievable - nothing to do with the car, market conditions mainly. Had I not been leaving the UK the next day I would have told them to get stuffed and driven away - I would never use them again, an absolute con.
