...who did nothing to win today. We gifted it them on a plate and they duly accepted.
Rubbish performance, and very questionable tactics and subs imo.
Woeful atmosphere...
Worst ref I've seen in a long time, joker. Hope our injured lads are okay

Ugly nothing of a game. Gifted goals and a Scouse ref. Not keen on our apparent conversion to long ball specialists. After match rumours suggest a broken leg for MD, and LL didn't look too good either, knee injury?
All in all, a bit of work for Mr Mellon and the boys over the next few days. A day to forget. Highlight? The chippy next door.

hmmm. A bad day all round. Not convinced by the formation especially once Lawrence went off. The loss of NKP seems to have made us defensively weaker as well. They reminded me of how we used play under Peters - limited but get in your face. They roughed us up and we didn't cope very well. The goals conceded were poor especially the second. I really hope we've not bought Barnett just to go long ball because that's much of what we did punt long diagonal balls in the air. To be fair he won a fair few headers but we won next to nothing on the second ball. More concerned about the injuries than the result in the end though.

The team line-up looked attacking (almost cavalier) at the kick-off, but seemed far more so after Lawrence limped off. We basically had 5 forwards + Ryan Woods + 4 defenders, 2 of whom like to go forward.
Surely the balance was completely wrong?
Certainly the team played in an unbalanced fashion!

Disappointing performance, individual errors cost us. I think we're missing NKP big time at the back and would feel better if we reverted to our 3 at the back tactics. Doesn't look good with losing LL & MD too, might need us to dip into the loan market for cover and maybe bring back Dom Smith if we can. Poor ref who only saw our pushes and missed all theirs especially the challenge on MD, hope he's ok! Anyway onward to Northampton COYB

We basically had 5 forwards + Ryan Woods + 4 defenders, 2 of whom like to go forward. Surely the balance was completely wrong? Certainly the team played in an unbalanced fashion! This x10000. I actually used the term 'cavalier' myself. The way he set-up made Mellon come across a bit van Gaal like. The side we had on the pitch at the end of the game was basically this:- Leutwiler Grandison Ellis Goldson Gayle Woods Grant Vernon Barnett Collins Akpa-Akpro There are no excuses for not tightening up away from home. Clark was a big call for me, I think either him or Vernon had to make way for another centre midfielder. Southern was the only option but bearing in mind he's hardly kicked a ball this season and didn't particularly flatter himself on his debut, starting him today risked putting a few noses out of joint. Not replacing Griffith and Wesolowski getting injured has left a huge gap in the centre of the park, we have no ball winners in there. At home we can get away with that because we are so good in possession. away we can't. I'm not sure where we are with regards to the loan window but bringing somebody in to there has to be an absolute priority going forward.
I know it's early days but Barnett and Collins do not look like a natural partnership. Too many times today we were too narrow and when that was the case, there was an overwhelming temptation to hit the ball long for it to stick to Barnett and it just didn't work. I fully accept that you cannot just use a blueprint that has served you so well at home and expect it to work away but too often we seem to be caught in two minds and seem to want to go long far too early for my liking.
And yes it's already been said but the ref had a stinker. No conviction in any of his decisions, like a game of roulette trying to predict which way any decision would go.

was the tackle on MD as bad as the Manager suggested on the radio? Yep, but think the ref tried to play advantage..... but was a joke I didn't think he saw it at all - when the town players confronted him about not stopping play he just pointed at the lino on the far side and suggested he'd not signalled anything so there was no problem with the challenge. Which obviously told you how bad the lino was as well - late on Odejayi was on the floor protecting the ball from any Town player getting near it but the ball eventually went out and he gave a Tranmere throw - complete jokers the lot of 'em.

We did ok today and another day would have taken a point, if not all three.
The injuries are a real concern and depending on how bad they are I'd expect some movement in the loan market.
I thought the town fans were excellent and created a decent atmosphere.

Good news MD ok, disturbing incident on many levels.
Positives in the performances of Ellis & Clarke for me but our current shape lacks width particularly when we go behind 2 against a team who shut up shop. Don't see any value in Vernon in the role he currently plays none at all. Miss the left foot of NKP dearly but the total amount of injuries now beginning to expose the squad, hopefully we can get in a new face this week. Ref was dire & atmosphere flattened once second Tranmere goal went in

I think the decision to bring on Grant rather than Southern was the wrong one - we ended up with a powderpuff midfield and Grant offers desperately little when he is this out of form. When we Clark off we just lost our shape altogether - two defenders and Leutwiler in our own half and everyone else standing in seemingly arbitrary positions in the Tranmere half - we're a lot better than that. With a number of unsavoury incidents in the stands and outside the ground a pretty miserable afternoon all round.
Thankfully no real damage done in the promotion stakes with Southend and Luton losing, but advantage Burton for the title race. Hopefully this will be another Exeter-away-esque kick up the backside. Still nine wins needed...

An off day all round today, 2 poor goals conceded and never really threatened to pull it back. Tranmere were certainly more deserving of the win today. Disappointing to see us go long so much. Just have to regroup before Northampton next week.
I think the worst part of the day was the officials failing to stop the play for the Demetriou injury. He was clearly badly hurt, as most of us would be had we been clobbered by Odejayi, but play continued for some time before it was stopped. Glad he's ok. The linesman on that side didn't make a decision all day. One occasion the ball clearly hit their player right in front of him, but he still waited for the ref to point our way. We certainly weren't entirely innocent with the pushes and pulls, seemed they just decided to flip a coin as to which ones to give and which way. Before anyone suggests it, in no way am I blaming the officials for the defeat!!

What I do not understand is why Mellon Changed our tactics so radically to face a team which was in relegation danger.
We were top of the table having lost one in the last ten but felt we needed to play like Stevenage.........
Very frustrating for the 1300 yesterday

Awful performance by players and management. Over 1300 town fans severely let down I'm sure most of them would have seen a good few home games this season and perhaps one or two away games that have more than made up for yesterdays disappointment. Lets not get too carried away and lets not be too critical, that was the first defeat we have suffered since the 3rd of January.

First time I've had to scratch my head at the Manager's calls. Clark substitution was a bad one - Vernon should have been substituted. Micky has to start thinking about the damage he could do to a young lad's confidence. Can anyone seriously say his performance wasn't good enough to stay on beyond 65 minutes ? ...... and then replace him with a player totally out of form. What as patently obvious is that the team shape was wrong. Can someone please tell me what Vernon's role is when you have Collins and Barnett up front ?

Can I tease any ratings out of anybody who went yesterday. Radio Shropshire found it difficult to name MOM but went for Woods and Goldson.

Clark was my MoTM before he was taken off...
Agree that Ellis played well, as did Goldson.
As for ratings - no one would get above a 7, most would get 5s and 6s.
