Sprightly 82 year old Harry Gregg had a foundation named after him yesterday at Ulster University in his home town Coleraine Northern Ireland. he did not want any statues but a foundation to insipre those who follow.
many remember harry as Man utds goal keeper and hero of munich air crash and later manager at Shrewsbury Town. well done Harry and well deserved.
the story can be read by googling harry gregg

He was a great goal keeper but he was not among the greats as a manager of Shrewsbury.

Maybe too long ago for me, but I thought at the time that it was good for little old Shrewsbury to have such a big name in charge.
Dont really get why HG should be off topic to be honest?

He was a great goal keeper but he was not among the greats as a manager of Shrewsbury. That is true but in fairness he tried very hard to play an attacking brand of football and in a league higher than we are in now Its all a long time ago now but would it have been Gregg rather than Arthur Rowley who turned Alf Wood into a centre forward and played with 2 wingers 9Roberts and Groves at one stage )My memory may deceive me so feel free to correct my impressions .

I can't remember either but looking at the dates I am sure you are right. So in fairness he deserves credit for turning Alf Wood into a Town ledgend.

Harry Gregg did turn Alf Wood from Centre Half to Forward, that was my first Season at the Gay Meadow, and it was a memorable season 50 goals scored against 29 at home 13 wins 5 draws & 5 defeats. And the approach was fairly exciting football with some players who were Town Legends (referring earlier debate)

it is nice to stir a few memories, the club must always look forward but forgets its history and heritage at its peril. thankfully the club has plenty of both.

I've spoken to some players of the Gregg era all of whom had huge respect for him and considered him to be a man to be respected and admired.
