I'd imagine a fair few will be intending to travel by train next week going via Chester, well I've been told that there is a replacement bus service between Wrexham and Chester on the day. I've had a look on the trainline, strangely there seems to be one train going which doesnt have a bus service (10.23) but before & after they do, then coming back they all appear to.
An alternative route may be to Crewe then Liverpool.

Alternative is to go via Lime Street.
Split the ticket Shrewsbury to Nantwich £9-40, Natntwich to Lime Street £10.60 = £20 total
Then use Mersey Rail, Lime Street to Rock ferry £3-20 return

Was going to say the same about the £17.10 which reads to me on National Rail website as a standard Off Peak ticket going either via Chester or Crewe/Lpool.
Maybe Jamo is flush and feels like paying more than the rest of us :-)
Think the bus replacement train will be one to avoid. Can easily see a position where the train is mobbed and there not being enough bus seats at Wrexham meaning some will miss out until another bus turns up.

I'm trying to find the best deal from Ipswich! Struggling as we've got engineering works over the weekend down here. I so want to go to the game!

We drove up last season but found out after that people got a return to Chester and then got a pass for the Wirral area. This worked out a lot cheaper. www.merseytravel.gov.uk/mobile/Pages/Saveaway-ticket.aspxThe pass for Wirral and Chester us £5.10, which allows you travel across bus and train so you can get to a pub and back as well as the train ride.

Is it easier to go Shrewsbury > Crewe > Chester > Rock Ferry or Shrewsbury > Crewe > Liverpool > Rock Ferry ? Either/or really. Probably almost exactly the same, Rock Ferry is about 30 mins from Chester, and takes 15 mins from Crewe to Chester. Liverpool to Rock Ferry is about 10 mins, but about 35 mins to Liverpool from Crewe! I'm coming from up North, but if I were coming from Shrewsbury, I'd probably go via Liverpool. The less time on a Merseyrail train the better!

For those travelling via Chester there is split ticket opportunity that saves £2.55. Not massive but you might get a pint out of it!
SHREWSBURY to CAPENHURST OFF-PEAK DAY R Return - £10.80
CAPENHURST to ROCK FERRY ANYTIME DAY R Return - £3.75
Total price £14.55
