Two come to mind for me, one Shrews and one not. I was only a kid when we played Middlesboro, when the buffet was torn apart by travelling fans, leaving there at the end put the wind up me. The other was when Telford beat Darlo in the FA cup in the 80s, walking down Regent street and getting caught between rival sets of fans charging each other as a 12 year old. Happy that times have changed

I've never felt scared at a match, but leaving Selhurst Park after a 1 0 win over Palace in the 80s was interesting.
Being caught up in violence when watching England abroad wasn't for the faint hearted neither.

Napoli vs Lazio in Serie A about a decade ago...watched the Napoli fans throw a Piaggio scooter from the upper tier on to the Lazio fans below. The place was like a war-zone after 90 minutes, with the Italian riot police taking no prisoners...their attitude was if they were faced with aggressive fans, they'd just release their hungry German Shepherds into the away fans!

Happy that times have changed That Middlesbrough one sticks in my mind as well !....recall we were all locked in to allow the police to clear the Boro' fans, and it was reported on the afternoon sports shows and local news as well. The only time that my missus was pleased to see me get home from a match

Not scared as such but the Chelsea home games of the 80's and Cardiff running amok over the English Bridge spring to mind.

Shrewder doing his best to ruin yet another thread with his bland postings. Will this madness ever end?
The only 'scary' match I've been to was at Wisla Krakow. Unbelievable police presence, noise and hostility.

How times have changed its now a pleasure to attend games and take the kids it wasnt in them days. Its always been my ambition as a kid to do the 92 which iv now acheived but some grounds and areas were a big no no thank god for Chris Smith hey, at least you had a police escort in and out of the town or city made the travelling to away games a lot safer.

Attended a Wolves v Shrewsbury cup match at Wolves many years ago. Leaving the ground amongst a large group of Shrews fans dodging a barage of dustbin lids slung from the other side of a wall.

No need to be a grammar snob! Nothing to do with grammer. Just a matter of making something readable. It is readable and many seem to understand what the OP is saying. This forum is open to all, as far as I am aware there is no prerequisite that you need to have a literary degree. We want to encourage new members and fellow Town supporters not deter them with remarks like yours.

Millwall v leeds 1985. I remember the welcome party at new cross tube! And the incredibly volatile walk down the old kent Road. Both sets of fans going at each other...mad! Tough police at Millwall then as well

Wouldn't say scary but the most unreal game I went to was when we played Burnley under John Bond. They hated him and it was a very strange atmosphere.

Talking of Leeds I was at the halifax game years ago league cup if i remember right?? at the old shay there was a almost like a speedway track around it! there were leeds fans there causing trouble throwing beleive or not breeze blocks and full cans of beer a bloke called chuck was drinking the beer and throwing them back very funny, until the end then not so funny i think 3 of our fans got put in hospital one either got threw over a railway embankment or jumped to escape the fighting crazy day out that was.

Birmingham City v aston villa in the league cup in 2011 . Birmingham fans invaded the pitch at the end , seats flying everywhere , flares , coins , bottles . People coming outside the stadium with the toilet doors on their shoulders . Never seen anything like that in 15 years following football . Stfc wise Swansea away at their last game at the vetch field , it was hostile but didn't come across any trouble .

As a Town fan the away game at Cardiff when they had to win to go up and we needed to get at least a point to be in the play offs - never been quite so pleased with a Mickey Brown powder puff shot at 1-2 with a few minutes to go...................
A certain Friday evening away at Luton was 'interesting' too - both inside the ground and afterwards in Toddington village.
There were plenty more that were slightly less intimidating but those two stand out as the worst

Someone was taken to hospital and we had to wait for them, was light when we got back to Shrewsbury. I remember Jean a glaswegian town fan toe to toe with them!

Yep - remember that game very well - 11 August 1979 - our first game after promotion to the then Division 2. Hot Saturday afternoon and I think it coincided with the flower show, so not many Town fans in attendance. Couldn't believe it when during the first half some guy opened up this tin shed and started selling cans of beer. As town4life has already said a few idiots from Leeds started throwing them at us - this was followed by the Halifax numpties running round the speedway track to join in. A couple of Town fans were arrested and one coach stayed behind to pick them up from the local cop shop - a couple of guys killed time by going for a walk-about with their colours on! They were spotted by the locals and chased they jumped over a wall and fell down a railway embankment - one of them broke his back I believe.
