As another south stander I would also welcome this move which if done well will also make the match day 'experience' much better and potentially increase crowds as a result
Wherever the section is though the standard of songs does need to improve to get more people joining in. Surely it can't be beyond us to come up with at least one original club song everyone knows and is proud to belt out?
If you search top 10 U.K. Ultras it shows clubs like York, accrington and oxford on there. We can compete with them can't we?!?
It would be great if we could form the loggerhead legion ready to celebrate a return to blue and amber stripes, our rightful badge and league one!!
I would love to see the south stand resemble some of the sections behind the goal you see in serie a or the bundesliga, with blue and amber, loggerhead, and players/ mgr flags and banners being waved constantly......be a great sight to see!!

This might have been mentioned already so apologies, but on the telly you came through loud and clear. Particularly during a corner when both ‘Salop’and ‘Come on you blues’ came across as if the whole ground was involved.
With the latter the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end.
You could hear Chelsea occasionally, but they were definitely drowned out.
The point is others will follow regardless of if there’s a singing block or not.

Could also close Block 19 too if some of South Stand was advertised as a singing block

Did anyone else think Chelsea's singing came across louder on the telly than it was actually at the game? I heard the Steve Gerrard song on the telly but didn't hear it at all at the game. Hardly heard Chelsea at all at the game.

They were fairly loud if not very original from block 2 .

They were fairly loud if not very original from block 2 . From block 2 I'd say they sounded louder than our fans, more due to acoustics than anything else though probably

Following is a post on the BBC 'as it happened' site:-
Shrewsbury 0-1 Chelsea
Posted at 21:16
BBC Sport's Ged Scott: "Shrewsbury's record capacity Greenhous Meadow crowd - over double this season's home average - has sparked some ironic banter between the two noisy sets of fans, prompted by the Chelsea fans' taunt of "You're here for the first time". Amusing but unprintable response from the Shropshire contingent."
Unfortunately couldn't be there - but would be interested to hear what the response was?

From the south stand I thought they were pretty loud, certainly louder than I expected.
I wouldn't have been surprised if they had been pretty subdued arrogantly taking the game for granted and made up predominantly of season tkt holders but was reasonably impressed by their range of songs and elements of humour.
Also thought it was the brought a decent response from us as well. 18 & 19 sounded pretty loud all game and in the main didn't resort to the usual banal banter.
Was easily the loudest the whole ground has been with contributions all round. The hard work the club put in to try and maximise the number of tickets going to 'genuine' fans may have helped with this as well.

Thought Chelsea fans/songs came across pretty loud on the TV, whereas with Town you could hear more just the general roar when we went on the attack. It all sounded way louder on the 5 Live commentary though, so guess it depends on the placement and sensitivity of the effects mic.

The first two seasons the south stand actually was a pretty load place to be, but you need at least two blocks sing to make it worth while, I don't think the golden oldies now they got there own way would like the noise in that end. Blocks 9 and 10 would be perfect but you need both blocks and again 9 is in the corner. To get good noise singing has to be centrally located and the way 10 and 16 are it aint gonna happen.

I applaud Timmy Mallet for his enthusiasm and attempts at getting the South Stand to participate in whatever song he is singing. However, there is a voice in my head constantly telling me that he is doing it purely to get attention. The voice in my head reminded me of this witnessing him running up and down in front of the seating area on Tuesday. The voice in my head told me 'he knows the game is on the television and he wants to be noticed/commented on by the commentators. He also seems to enjoy having what appears to be 'debates' with security/stewards - possibly another 'getting attention' tactic. As I mention though, I applaud his efforts and when you consider that some supporters can't even be bothered to stand up and applaud a goal we score then I'd rather a stadium full of Mallets rather than 'corpses'. To be honest I think he just can't help himself!!!! He just has to talk and be the centre of attention but to be fair he can also be a very kind and generous. On a side note, look at the picture of John Terry in the programme - remind you of anyone?! Spoke with timmy. He had a few to drink which affects his attitude like it would to most. He didn't like being told he couldn't try and get the crowd going from the front. He cannot swear and abuse stewards and not get thrown out again. Like seeing him when sober but when he is has been quiet as a mouse in comparison. !

I don't think it helps that there seems to be a different new song emenating from the back of 19 each week...
That's fine, but what we need is ONE song that EVERYONE (and I mean all stands) will have a go at and a bit of a campaign to get people joining in.
Like at the end of England games where the national anthem is sung?? Not sure everyone would like that, but what if we bellowed out Jerusalem on 80mins every home game??
I think you might get more of the older lot joining in with that? AND once they are used to making noise in public they will be more likely to make more noise throughout ??
Or maybe if Lennie walked up and down the front of the stands with a "sing up" sign?? .... I think people need encouraging...
" Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight, Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, Till we have built Jerusalem In Salop's green and pleasant land. "
