After the match I walked out of the stadium and started to talk to a Portsmouth fan. Immediately he asked me who the Scholes look alike was who ran the game for us. Not the first time that young Woods has had the opposition fans and journos drooling this season. Despite a few critics on here, his stock must be rising almost weekly. Another good performance in the spotlight against Chelsea and we may struggle to keep him beyond January. My MOM today but credit to Grandison and Goldson too.

Every time I speak to any Southend fans they rave about Ryan

I see Tom Bradshaw, Jon Taylor & of course Connor Goldson have all scored today!
Nice to see the youth players coming through and doing well..

Woods has that higher league quality of holding onto the ball just long enough to draw a player towards him - making space for the rest of the team - whilst still being able to make a pass or retain the ball
Hope he stops with us a few more seasons but really think he could thrive in a higher league side with players making runs off the ball for him to pick out with a pass

He's young so still has a few rough edges, but I think he and weso are key to our success so far. Not taking anything away from the team generally of course...

He's best as the 'spare' player. The one who is always there to pick up the ball and play the right ball to the right player. He's not great creatively, not a great tackler, he's not even that positive, but he's always there.
And that it is brilliant teamwork. Every team needs a Ryan Woods.
He's only compared to Scholes because of the ginger hair, but in reality he's nothing like Scholes. If you want the 'perfect player' for him to aspire to then it's not Scholes, Giggs, Messi, Ronaldo or Georgie Best, Woods is more of a 'Zinedine Zidane' type. The player who is always there for his team mates and does the right thing.
There's not many of him out there, he's a rare type, and that doesn't go unnoticed.
Great talent that we will do well to hold on to.

With our squad containing Woods, Goldson, Burton, Ginnelly, Grandison & Collins back, could GT's legacy about to bear fruit?
Woods is destined from Championship at least....Scholeseque in the extreme. The way he can take the ball, control it, turn players and find a pass? Sublime.
Connor? Nature leader, strong, cultured defender with the ability to find a pin-point pass. Strong in the tackle and in the air, with the added bonus of being able to score goals from set pieces as well as having a decent assist rate.
Burton? Possible the next Joe Hart. A continuation of the Shrewsbury goalkeeper sausage factory. Strong, dependable (from what I've seen) and authoratitive with his defence - one for the future.
Ginnelly - brief glimpses in the first team suggest he has the touch and pace to become a successful winger-cum-striker. Great future ahead of him, and IF we get promoted, could become our star youngster in Lg 1 next season.
Jermaine - What can I say? A steal from Coventry. Strength, flair and vision personified. Step overs, barracking runs when needed and stronger with each game as a CB between Connor and NKP. Crowd favourite, but doing the strong, reliable stuff at the back.....and always plays the game with a smile in his face. His future? Shrews Legend a la Vic Kasule.
Collo? Back. Better. Stronger. Scoring goals and working for the team every game. Runs himself into the ground. Puts his body on the line and works the opposition defence tirelessly. A 20 goal a season striker, with the work rate of a young Bryan Robson....this man will win us promotion/the league - not with his goals, but with his work rate and attitude.
Woodsy? I wouldn't let him go for less than £4m....he's our future, and MM Can build a team around him...
The future's bright, the future's Blue & Amber!
