Quote from Robbie Savage= players never concern themselves with what it costs the public to buy tickets! perhaps he should be concerned. man u and man c fans who can no longer afford to watch premier football now swell Altrincham's gate.
a quote from a Gulls fan, "football club's are removing themselves from the average punter, gates are falling.
gates are falling closer to home as well. my view is all kids up to say 14 should be £1 accompanied. clubs and players need to recognise the old Maxim. Supporters make paydays possible!
Remember that, Robbie Savage and quit spouting rubbish. a new dawn in club gates is upon let us hope our club recognises that fans have none too deep pockets.

I stopped going to watch football for various reasons, but one of the biggest was the cost involved. Just wasn't prepared to pay up any more, it gives me a small fortune to spend elsewhere.
I do wonder what gates we would be getting these days if we didn't pick up lots of new fans because we moved grounds

Exeter City have announced tonight they need another loan of £100k for running costs until end of November. another 100k borrowed in June and repaid in August but not before a transfer ban was imposed.

I don't blame savage for saying the truth.
In the same way I doubt Tom Cruise cares how expensive the cinema is.
It's certainly true that football is completely different now, especially when you consider few other nations have such a culture of away support so we're paying for everything twice.

You all seem to forget , we are paying for the full "match day experience". A nice ground with no restricted views , easily accessible with pre match entertainment and a superb menu to satisfy anyone's discerning pallet courtesy of Jenny's catering . The football comes under the heading " added value". We've never had it so good !

Agree with Throb that its easy to shout at Savage for on the face of it saying crass, arrogant things but at least he's being honest rather than spout some scripted statement his PR people have come up with. A lot of footballers are detached from the average fan now because of the wages they get and the adulation they receive. Its not just football either, Graeme Swann made similar comments recently about being suprised about the cost of test match cricket which has also rocketed in recent years.
The simple answer is prices will remain the same as long as people pay them. People have been saying for a while that football in England will implode soon but with the money for the tv deals, interest from the Far East, concepts such as the '39th' game and an emerging interest from America I cant see it happening anytime soon, not at the top at least.

Savage was just being honest. He didn't say "I don't care about the cost of watching football". What he said was, "when I was a player, I never thought about how much it cost to watch and I don't believe players generally do". Where's the arrogance in that exactly?
If people don't like what he said then, instead of pointlessly making it a personal issue because they don't like Savage, they'd do better to think about what his comments really mean.
Here is a recently retired footballer (and one some way below the highest level) saying effectively that players are completely out of touch with fans. That shouldn't surprise anyone but they have the choice of accepting it or doing something about it.
What can they do? 1 Don't pay more than they believe is a reasonable price to watch a game of football. 2 Don't demand their club "shows ambition" and pays too much money to overpriced players. 3 Cancel their Sky/BT subscription.
Not prepared to do any of that? Fair enough, but you should expect the football industry to keep taking the money that's there. It really is in the power of fans to do something about it if they want to.
I think this applies to the top two divisions really but elements of it filter down to the lower leagues.
